o.k back in the late 50s the drag racer who ran in like super stock classes started doing it to reduce weight.and in the 60s when the factors got involved in drag racing they started even putting holes in the frames and putting aluminum hoods,fenders.bumpers, so thats how it all started they did it to.to reduce the drag on the cars..then around 64 they started to change the wheels postions and that how the funny car classes where born.......i figured i would give u guys a little history leason

and i have no cleu why people do it now all they have to do is pull the bumper off and then just put the cover back on the car so its diff. not for weight reasons
