Default 2 and 3 step rpm selector

Got the basic concept of how to install a two step, it goes into your msd pill input ground it out then the red wire goes to a switch to switch between module 1 and 2. What got me stumped is the 3 step, cause in the instruction it was saying the need of a line lock or a trans lock. Is this really needed cause i figure this is for auto cars only. For the step 3 mod 1 will be activated by switch during burnout, so will mod 2 be activated by deactivating the switch or by clutch or by having the switch activated and clutch? and will mod 3 be activated when switch is on? cause 3 acts as your rev limiter, while 2 is for staging. Reason asking about the clutch is because in the diagram it was talking about clutch switch or msd micro switch. Now with a shift light will it be affected just as it is ,activation due to rpm selected on the tach, or will this have to be wiried in. when not using 1st and 2cd module , such as in regular street driving, the last pill should activate the shift light.

Thanks in advance.
