Wasn't there, didn't see the course, but...
You can make a course 60 seconds, even 90 seconds and not effect the number of runs. The trick is to design the course such that you can safely have more than one car on the course.
The key to an efficient event (anyone who's been to the Solo Nationals knows this) is start interval. If you can maintain a 25-30 second start interval, you can get in a LOT more runs and it matters not how long the course is. (unless you have lots of reruns, then it can become an issue)
