Moving on, I know what training they recieve b/c my friends are HCSO officers and I always talk about the poor status of their department, both are looking into moving my way after I told them what they are missing out on. Their pay is horrable, once again first hand.
Hmmm...your friends seem to be in the majority. Sorry but there is SO much training available that you would be in classes all year if you tried to take them all. Remember that HCSO does not provide the initial training, it is from the State and you get your certification from the state. Then you get ADDITIONAL training from your agency. Sorry but HCSO is the 5th largest Sheriff's Office in the COUNTRY and one of the first to be nationally accredited.
As far as the pay, starting is around $38,000/yr and next year will be $41,000. Now this does NOT include the extra $160 a month that is paid for cafeteria benefit. Funny enough the starting pay is about the same as NYPD but the cost of living is WAY lower. See here:
http://www.nypd2.org/html/recruit/salary.html, they make theirs a little higher by including "average" overtime.
I am curious as to what district your friends work in? Or are they detention deputies? They make less than a road deputy.
So what departments are you talking about "your" way that are so much better than the ones around here?
