How ironic, I to am changing my rear end fluid as well as my transmission fluid this weekend. The factory manual for my '98 240 says 80w-90 with a GL-5 rating. I used non-synth because on the back it said for high horsepower/torque applications whereas the synth did not mention so I figured the non was better, but I dunno.
