The reason people switch to OBD1 is because it is super cheap to chip it, and reprogram the eeprom inside the ECU.

It is not bad to downgrade, there are no real side effects to this.

If you stay OBD2 you will have to pay ~200-500 bucks to chip your ECU, I only know a few people who will even bother.

Going obd1 will cost you about, $100 for harness, and $100 for ECU, and about 50 bucks to chip.
