Intercooler
I'm making my final decision on an intercooler. What you you buy if you were in my shoes and why? Shooting for 400WHP max.
Spearco 20x10.5x3 $500.00 total or PWR 10.5x20x3 $495.00 total The core sizes and in/outlets are the same size. They are both tub & fin. |
Personally I would go spearco.
What's the diff between bar+plate, and tube+fin? |
I have not seen solid data to backup the claim that tube & fin has a quicker response for cooling and some other claims.
tube & fin PWR http://www.public.asu.edu/~ramirez0/..._core_guts.jpg I will look for a good bar & plate picture. Also, I have not read this but people say it's a good read. http://www.are.com.au/techtalk/intec...be%20and%20Fin |
Couldn't find any good pictures but Bell intercoolers had this ...
What are the variations in core construction used in intercoolers? The variations are in the style of manufacture of the core material. A “Bar and Plate”-Style Core is made by brazing up a layered structure of flat plates separated by small rectangular spacers. A “Tube and Flange”-Style Core is created by extending a series of tubes through a header flange and brazing the assembly together. For heavy duty applications, pressure spikes up to 250 psig and rugged environments, ”Solid Extruded Tube”-Style Cores are available. |
You may want to read that link you provided. Some pretty decent information on endtanks and the efficiencies of diff types.
It may help your selection quite a bit. |
I'm getting ready too. If anyone has any input post up. Thanks.

Well I went with the tube and fin 28x10.5x3 Spearco intercooler with 2.5 in/outlets. Thanks as always Chronic. I will post pictures next week.

|
I went with a Spearco 28x10.5x3 tube and fin intercooler. I got the intercooler and end tanks for $500.00 shipped.
