[h=1]Virginia Citizens Will Have the Right to Protection Even in Church[/h]
Did anyone tell the democrats that the pilgrims carried guns to church?

Virginia is now continuing to ensure that gun owners can exercise their right to self-protection by passing new legislation that will allow registered gun owners to be able to conceal carry in churches in the state. The Senate is responding to a growing need to allow its citizens to be able to protect themselves in areas that may be targeted due to gun restrictions in the past.

The recent legislation that has passed was a repeal of a current state law that banned the carrying of guns in places of worship during a religious service. The repeal was in response to a recent violent attack where an assailant preyed on the vulnerability of a church service in Texas. The Virginia Senate wanted to give their citizens their rights to self-defense no matter where they are so they can protect themselves against being the possible victim of a tragedy.

While the measure easily passed through the Senate, it will still have to make its way through the House and past the Democratic governor Ralph Northam who opposes the measure and threatens to veto the bill if it comes across his desk. Supporters of the new bill have stated that earlier state prohibition of carrying a weapon such as a knife, dagger, pistol or gun into a place of worship is simply a remnant of the states long ago enacted blue laws that were created in the 1800’s to restrict activities that can occur on Sundays. These supporters feel that the reversal of this law is far from overdue.

While in a previous statement the State’s Attorney General said that the government already allowed for citizens to carry in churches at the church’s discretion, GOP Senator Bill Chafin, who is the sponsor of the bill, said that the right needed to be cemented and expressly stated so that owners will have the right to carry in churches that allow it. In addition to parishioner’s right to carry, the bill will allow the church to employ armed security guards if they feel the need.

“It’s a private property rights issue,” said Chafin. In his plea from the debate floor, Chafin was quoted as saying, “for any of us to sit here and think that when a gunman comes to you that a law is going to somehow protect you is sheer lunacy.”

After 26 worshippers were killed at a Baptist church in Texas last year, Chafin said that he needs to ensure the people he represents will have the right to defend themselves in the event a situation occurs and hopefully prevent a similar tragedy in the state of Virginia.

Armed Citizens Deter Crime

Unfortunately, when assailants choose to commit crimes or acts of violence, they often target those that will be more easily victimized and provide the least resistance for them to achieve their goals of destruction. We have repeatedly seen acts of violence committed in areas where firearms are prohibited, and the assailants are unlikely to encounter much resistance such as schools, places of employment, and even churches.

With criminals having no respect for the laws that prevent gun carrying in these areas, it has now become time for law-abiding citizens to be able to exercise their right to carry to protect themselves as well as those who may not be able to protect themselves. State and local laws are continuing to be passed as more establishment are pushing for the right for citizens to be able to protect their property and patrons. More employers are allowing employees to concealed carry, many schools are now allowing authorized persons to be armed, and now churches are acknowledging their parishioners right to self-protection.

As citizens continue to exercise their rights and are prepared for self-defense, the hope is that these locations that were previously targeted for the ease in victimizing them will now cause more of a deterrent to would-be assailants who only wish to prey on those who cannot defend themselves. Hopefully, legislation such as this will continue to pass through state law and make communities safer for all the law-abiding citizens who inhabit it.

In this video we will discuss what the ideal role of the team is and is not. Too many church security teams are not even doing the basics correctly. http://www.ministry-of-defense.com

In today’s ASP Extra lesson, I want to talk about church security in light of MORE atrocities in churches, including Sunday’s shootings in Nashville. Here I introduce the 5 facets of church security that I talk about when I train church security in Phoenix and throughout the country.

Default About Evil By Rick Sapp // 09/07/2018 I attended Unity Church for several years.

About Evil

By Rick Sapp // 09/07/2018
I attended Unity Church for several years. I learned a great deal about prayer, meditation, the practice of inner peace and that the ideas and images (my judgments, preconceptions and even prejudices) I project onto the world co-create my experiences and the world in which I live: “We have the capacity to transform any and all evil into good.” (truthunity.net)

Many members of our congregation believed that if they collected a bottle of dirty water and directed their thought toward it in a concerted and earnest manner, they could change it to clean water. They believed there was no such thing as evil in the world. At that point, the church and I parted ways — amicably.Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, both 29, believed the world was inherently good. They quit excellent jobs in Washington, D.C., and began cycling around the world. Both were from relatively affluent families, and Austin, an advocate for sustainable, simple living, owned a “tiny house.”

On their blog (simplycycling.org), they describe the kindness and generosity of strangers as they biked through Africa, Europe and central Asia. In April 2018, Austin wrote: “Badness exists, sure, but even that’s quite rare. By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind. No greater revelation has come from our journey than this.” Badness.
Traffic stop near the border of America and Mexico. Without taking my hands off the wheel, I told the heavily armed officer that I was carrying and that I was licensed. He asked where the gun was — in the glove compartment — and then told me to show him my driver’s license, which I did (slowly). He then waved me on with a “be careful out there.” Anyone who believes there is no evil in our world has never experienced it firsthand.
Then, on Sunday morning, as Jay and Lauren had joined with five other cyclists to pedal through Tajikistan, a small car made a U-turn in front of them, accelerated and smashed into the seven cyclists. Radical Muslim men then jumped out of the car and began stabbing the injured cyclists, killing five of them before speeding away. According to a story on National Public Radio, Jay and Lauren’s “fundamental faith in humanity” never flagged. ISIS claimed responsibility.

According to bicycling.com, two European cyclists, Holger Hagenbusch, 43, from Germany, and Krzysztof Chmielewski, 37, from Poland, were pedaling through southern Mexico when they met in Chiapas and began cycling together.A few months ago, their bodies were found at the bottom of a ravine just off a major road between the towns of Ocosingo and San Cristóbal de las Casas. Mexican authorities initially brushed off their deaths as accidents, but pressured by the European Union, the Mexican authorities suddenly discovered that the two had been murdered and their bodies kicked into the ravine. One Luis Alberto Sánchez, a special prosecutor newly appointed to the case, has opined that robbery was the most likely motive for the killings. Chmielewski was shot in the head, and Hagenbusch was beaten to death. Then the bodies were partially dismembered.

If you don’t believe in the presence of evil in our world, you’re living in a soft, protected American bubble. I’m not picking on Unity Church, and I’m not arguing religion or philosophy. I’m suggesting that we carry for a reason. We carry because we know that there is evil in the world and that it can be random and violent and cruel. History acknowledges that evil is alive and well and has been alive and well for hundreds of thousands of years, even long before history began. We carry because we have a duty to protect ourselves and our loved ones from evil, from criminals and from criminal governments. We carry because simply praying for peace, meditating on love, trusting that people are good and decent at heart, and expecting those people to think and act in that manner is sweet and nice but surely prone to fail — catastrophically.

So, I carry because I can and because I believe that there is an equal amount of evil as good in the world and that if I am subjected to it I won’t drop to my knees and preach it into goodness and light. I’ll draw and aim … and see how that works.

Default Church Praise Teams and Security Teams

Church Praise Teams and Security Teams

By Beth Alcazar // 11/06/2018
For many people, church is a haven, a safe place — often considered a second home full of brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s not the kind of environment in which you’d naturally think about firearms and self-defense. Perhaps that’s one reason evildoers choose to target churchgoers. Church should be a place of rest and worship, of renewal and peace. An environment of sharing words of scripture and singing hymns of faith doesn’t seem to fit with counter-assault tactics and firearms training.

Of course, it doesn’t seem to fit with mass shootings either. Yet because violence can be anywhere and at any time, protecting houses of worship has become an important topic of discussion.

I have spent a lot of time in churches — from attending services and enjoying special presentations to listening to my father speak or even having the opportunity to perform. While I have read countless stories of martyrs and heard plenty of atrocities regarding countries that punish or even kill Christians, I never really considered those dangers as I slid into a pew with my family to soak up God’s Word. I assume that many other congregants have felt similarly …

if not more strongly. In fact, according to a 2012 poll by the Public Religion Research Institute, approximately 75 percent of Americans were not in favor of guns in churches and places of worship. And, unfortunately, Religion News Service reported that “many denominations, from Lutherans to Methodists to Roman Catholics, either in the wake of Sutherland Springs or well before, have taken a stance on the issue, condemning gun violence and advocating for greater gun control.”

The problem is, even though a church should never be a place of violence, that doesn’t stop violent people from doing harm there. In fact, that’s a bit like saying gun-free zones keep killers with guns away. That simply doesn’t happen. We see the complete opposite; these gun-free zones and places that are traditionally (or stereotypically) absent of firearms are often targeted by criminals. It has been reported that as soft targets, “Places like public libraries, malls and movie theaters, as well as houses of worship, provide access to anyone who wishes to enter. This welcoming environment makes churches, synagogues and mosques particularly vulnerable to attack.”

So what can we do to protect churchgoers? Every person has the inherent right to protect himself or herself from harm … and that doesn’t change the moment you walk through the sanctuary doors. In fact, isn’t that exactly what criminals look for? The vulnerable? The trusting? The unprotected? You shouldn’t be rendered defenseless in any situation. Even though Christians may be instructed to love our enemies, we have never had the expectation or the obligation to be victims.

No doubt, in uncertain times like these, believers in God will turn to prayer for direction and for protection. But that doesn’t mean the church should stop there. It’s a situation in which the phrase “fail to plan, plan to fail” comes to mind. Since no one wants panicked people showing up in large groups with firearms they don’t know how to use,

it’s imperative that leaders address the possibilities and the procedures. Churches can certainly employ armed security guards to keep the congregation safe. But planning and training are just as important for pastors, elders, deacons and church members. Nowadays, we should realize and accept that a security team should be just as commonplace in the church as a praise team.

Defend This House … of Worship

By Kevin Michalowski // 11/09/2018
Look around. Take it all in. Where are the exits? Where are the choke points if people start to panic? What provides cover? What provides concealment? If someone walked in and started shooting, where would you go? What would you do? Have you discussed the options with your family? Which seat provides you the best field of view? Where would be the best place to engage an attacker? Can you navigate the pews to get to an escape route? Will the shooter attack the pulpit or the congregation? Are you upset that we are talking about fighting inside a church, synagogue or other house of worship?

Situational awareness should not stop at the church door. Your personal-protection plan must include a discussion of what to do inside a church if someone causes a commotion or, worse yet, starts shooting.

Too often we ignore our safety inside houses of worship. Many of us simply assume everything will be fine. Some people are so emotional about the thought of an attack on a church that they can’t even think or talk about it. They simply put their heads in the sand and hope it will never happen. Hope is not an effective defense. Hope gets people killed.

Recently we invited noted security expert Ron Aguiar to be part of the USCCA Proving Ground series. We found a real church with a pastor who worried about safety and worshipers and who actually had a security team in place. With permission of the pastor and the help of volunteers, we tested the reactions of the security team leader and a member of his team.

If you’ve not been inside a church where a lunatic is firing a rifle, even a UTM-equipped rifle firing battlefield blanks, the feeling is surreal. Stained glass. Flowers. Images of the Savior. These things seem to disappear as two men engage in the potentially deadly dance that is a gunfight in front of the altar.

Where would you go? What would you do? One volunteer role player saw the rifle and immediately exited the sanctuary without alerting the rest of the flock. When the shooting started, people scattered. Some got trapped in dead ends as they looked for an exit. Others fell to the ground hoping not to be seen. Parents shielded their children and the lone, armed security guard, an experienced law enforcement officer, reverted to his police training.

That training told him to create distance, seek cover and fire at the shooter. It was precisely the wrong thing to do in that situation. This was not a gunfight at a traffic stop on the side of the road. This was a shootout with a mass murderer inside a crowded church.

When the smoke from the battlefield blanks had cleared and people were able to take a close look at what had happened during the fear and surprise of a sudden assault, everyone had questions. The volunteers knew this attack was coming. They just didn’t know when or from where. Even with advance warning, many still panicked. Some froze. Some fled only to find their chosen route blocked. Everyone wanted to know what they should have done. Ron Aguiar was there to offer up his insights.

This upcoming edition of Proving Ground prompted questions concerning just about every element of church security and showed at least one would-be protector that intuitive actions might not be correct in a crowded room.

Evil exists, and it has too often set upon our houses of worship, where people should feel safe and secure. But the truth is simple: Have a plan. Be ready. Be willing to talk about the unthinkable before you are faced with a life-or-death decision.

I hope you’ll join us for the next edition of the Proving Ground. It will give you plenty to think about.
