https://yt3.ggpht.com/-IA_SXg-Ta0w/A...ffff/photo.jpg I remember almost knocking myself out jumping up in the air from sitting down when Dale crossed the stripe to win his only Daytona 500. Loved him like he was family. I made sure l was going to get to a funeral home near me to sign the guestbook they were sending to DEI, and it was a nasty snowy evening. I was determined to show my respect and appreciation for the Man in Black. Isn't the same without him even after all these years. |
https://yt3.ggpht.com/-mn8JDoZsGj0/A...ffff/photo.jpg Dale SR, I meet you at Martinsville Virginia airport on the tarmac, as soon as you got off the airplane. I will never forget it. He had three things in his hands when he got off that plane. Drives suit, Drives helmet, and his briefcase. I asked him for his autograph. And he said, son I will be right back, I had a Diecast car #3 silver 1/18 ERTL. So a few minutes later here come Dale SR. And then I asked him if he would sign on the #3. He then looked at me and smiled said son I don't sign across the #3 just the GM Goodwrench..Then I said thanks Dale! Goodluck at the race.. I stopped watch racing when you passed away for awhile. Just like to say Dale |
Wow... About 23 years ago I was working in Oregon ... I’m from California and didn’t understand how nascar worked if u didn’t win... these welders from back east were diehard race fans and told me to come watch the race with them... so before it started they said u have to pick a car and put $20 bux in the pot... nobody said a word I looked at the cars and saw the #3 car... this was my baseball number and favorite number period ... On top of that it was BLACK!!! I said I want the number #3!!! They all looked at me and said OH WOW!!! U picked the “INTIMIDATOR” with that redneck slang ( no offense ) ... I said what’s wrong with that??? They said nothing ... U got a very BAD ASS MOFO!!! Needless to say he ended up winning the race and BAM!!! I WAS A FAN FOR LIFE!!! The guy who had number 3 wasn’t around so I got lucky I guess... GREAT DRIVER GREAT COMPETITOR !!! Sad loss ... I have not watched since his passing... lost all interest .. |
Awesome movie! Really showed how Dale had so many sides to him. He was a racer, a dad, a husband, a friend, a competitor, a son but mostly just a hard working man. He didn't think he was a hero nor did he really act like one. He just wanted to be remembered as a lucky person who was able to do what he always wanted, and be the best person he could be. Very inspiring! He is still missed. |
