Early drag racing. roll the car to the weigh in with water in the tires @ 8 lbs per gallon. Then switch the wheels before coming to the line to race.

This was 1967 season, and he was chilling a 30 gallon drum. I know the in-line cool cans MOROSO and others sold to cool fuel. Penske was condensing volume pressed into a rule-spec cell.

When i raced 4 cycle karts back in the day. We would use a dummy pull start. Instead of the coil of rope inside it was lined in lead. Take it off after weighing the kart and use a real pull starter. Or a bag of lead shot in a bag that would be in my helmet. And you guessed it pass the bag to my Uncle. Sure we cheated i am not really proud of it. But, when your eyes burn from the front runners exhaust, even after a pump around. You have to join them to beat them.

Had a carb rule but didnt say all the air had to be run through the carb. Drilled out the bolts and filed the top of the intake uneven to leave gaps, jetted up. Ran like piss at idle but definitely made a difference.

I heard of a team that applied a super thin coat of iron filings on illegal aluminum cased transmissions so the tech inspector's magnet would stick to it.

In the seventies my Stepdad raced circle track. He had his car's frame completely boxed in and would fill it with water before being weighed in and then let it out in the pits.

Fernando Domingues

Some teams claimed to use "Water Cooled" brakes in F1 at some time, but they raced with no water at all. After the race, and before measurements, the team was able to (re)fill the water tanks.
