Default spraying single stage?

just trying to get some info, im going to be spraying my car here in a couple weeks. im just making sure i have a good idea or any suggestions im open. im going to be shooting a single stage paint so i had some questions about it.i have helped my buddy spray base coat clear coat a couple times so i have an idea but by no means an expert.

i plan on using a da for the scuffing

scuff the body with the original paint with 400 grit
spray a couple coats of primer
sand said primer with 400 until smooth and no issues
wipe car down
spray single stage a couple coats

and then what? just hope it looks good? lol

like i said im not an expert at all but im willing to try and maybe fuck it up to learn. i googled single stage paint for almost an hour and couldnt get any straight forward answers.

thanks in advance paint and body guys!!

:edit: also, im not going for show quality. my car litteraly has 5 different color whites on it and even some pearl white mixed in.(its slowly turning into a 240 j/k guys) it sucks, i just want it all to match and be somewhat shiney and i will be happy. obviously im no expecting much seeing as how im no expert painter or anything

Well painting is one of those things you cant "read' how to do it take finesse. Be carefull with that DA though. Its easy to dig low spots if you re not familiar with it. you could just wet block the car by hand to be safe,or just scuff by hand. And if the existing surface is solid(no flakes or cracking) you souldnt have to prime it. Just sand well and go right over it,single stage generally hides well, much bettre than base does.

yeah im not trying to read how to spray just a couple steps or pointers if im missing anything. also, do you think by just scuffing it, it will give enough for the single stage to stick too? and i know to go easy with the da, you can def do some damage with it.

Well sand it until the shine is gone wth 320 or 400 and it'll stick. What single stage are you using?

The trick to making single stage look good is to do two light coats and then hammer the last coat pretty heavy. This will make it lay pretty smooth and bring out the shine you will want to have.

a good wet sand and some 3m buffing/rubbing compound will get you the shine
