From what I know, if you just paint a hood and not blend at the fenders it will not look right. Especially silver! You may end up with a two tone paint

Not true. Blending guarantees a color match, but experienced painters with the right tools CAN match colors.

lets get into a pissing match about this.......

Its always better to blend but if the dood wants a hood painted than so be it. 354 is a solid color. I have alot of experience with this color as i worked at a high end shop in town that did alot of BMWs. (gene perez). Any ways, using standox paint with the lighter variant you can get away with painting the hood with out blending the fenders.

good luck to you my friend.

No pissing contest. Facts. Its not "better" to blend, its easier. You get the color somewhat close then blend adjacent panels. Its not a better match, it just masks the difference. An experienced painter can match any color, some are trickier than others, but with the right equipment, along with a few spray cards it is possible to match a color without blending. Of course you cant expect joe schmoo at the corner paint shop to do it. But it can be done. Blending, for the most part, is an upsell or a time/money saving strategy.
