Default New Nissan Pathfinder concept.

I know most of you guys are 240 kids and what not, but for those few above the age of 30, and somewhat intersted in the pathinders, here's Nissans newest model. To me, it's the same garbage as any other korean bag of dicks "crossover", and doesn't encompass, what a "pathfinder" stands for.

looks like it would struggle just getting up on a curb. Sad sad day for Nissan.

I would rather prefer an Xterra than this. I drove a 2010 Xterra when it first came out, 5 speed. It was pretty bad ass.

I really like the 4.0l VQ/H/WTF ever they are now, very torquey motors. I too like the Xterra's, had one as a rental when I was out of town on business. It was 4x4 and what had happened was... Well you get the idea.

Back on topic, wtf happened to the ground clearance? The damn Forester/Outback of Subaru have more ground clearance and are on a car platform...

eh.
it isn't a "pathfinder" but then again, who takes a newer pathfinder off roading anyway?
The last generation, the buyers were people who didn't want a huge SUV, but didn't want to get stuck in a stupid mini van either.
So knowing the demographic, they modernized the pathfinder to suite their needs and wants. It isn't about getting off road, that's for the Xterra. It is about towing your boat and camper around. Going down the dirt roads on a camping trip. Over the hills and through the woods on the way to grandma's house. All while being comfortable enough to drive everyday.
I actually think it is a great move on Nissan's part to have a car like this in their line up.
I personally think they should ditch a few of their other vehicles and concentrate on quality not quantity.
They should keep the Titan and Frontier. It makes sense to have a full size truck and a smaller truck.
Keep the Armada, Pathfinder, and Xterra. That gives you the big suv, average size suv, and the small suv.
With the redesign of the pathfinder, they don't really need a "cross over" option since it has been moderized anyway. The only advantage the Murano had was that it wasn't a big, boxy SUV. The new Pathfinder solves that problem.
So dump the Murano, dump the Rogue, dump the Juke. The Murano starts at more than the pathfinder, and doesn't offer anything the Pathfinder doesn't already. The Juke is a terrible vehicle that is there to appeal to the "weird so i like it" group. The arguement could be made that the Rogue fills in the gap between the car and the SUV without being rugged like the Xterra. It is several grand cheaper than the Pathfinder and a bit smaller. Ok, so keep it.
Obviously keep the GTR, BUT BUT BUT BUT, in the next generation, they need to get back to more of the Skyline roots. Yes, the GTR is an awesome car, but it isn't a Skyline. Nissan NEEDS a Skyline.
Keep the Z, but again, get back to the Z roots. Boosted, performance, sports cars. Not, nice cars with some performance parts on them. The Z is supposed to be timeless. The classic Z is just that, a classic. Even the 300zx still has a lot of appeal. People still think it is a hot car. But the 350z is just too "plain" It doesn't have a timeless look. In 10+ years, they are going to become the 240's of today. The "disposable" cars. The 370z added some aggression into the styling. It did help a lot. I think people will note the 370, but it isn't going to develop that "classicness" the older cars do. Nissan needs to make the Z car a timeless, gorgeous, hot car. They need to make a car that in 50 years, is still going to be a hot car.
Keep the Maxima. I'd say it needs stepped up to be more than just a bigger Altima. It needs to be the "classy, plush" car.
Keep the Altima. Hell, keep the Altima coupe since it does fill that niche of wanting a sports car, but needing a backseat.
The Sentra is dead. I understand that it is supposed to fill the gap between a Vera and an Altima as far as cost goes, but a loaded Vera costs the same as a base model Sentra and the Sentra doesn't really offer anything the Versa doesn't. They are both about the same size. They are both fwd. they are both slow. Either make the Sentra the small car, that can be offered at a budget as well as a "cool" option, or dump it and give the vera a "GT" trim level that gives it a little bit more oomph to it.
Then, ditch the Cube. Especially if you are keeping the Rogue, you don't need the Cube, it is just one more car to waste production on that doesn't offer anything that a different option doesn't already.

Trim out the models that don't offer anything different, and then take what is left and make things different from each other. People don't want to see the exact same dash in the altima, in the Z, in the Pathfinder, and in the Titan. They don't want to drive the exact same car, but shaped different. Give each car something different. Offer some decent trim levels, but make the trim levels make sense. The Titan and the Z are fantastic examples. The Titan basically comes in base model, or fully loaded. Ok, maybe do like Ford does and offer a base model, then a higher trim level, then do some special stuff. Make the lower models more affordable. And offer some crazy stuff, like Nissan's version of a King Ranch. There isn't a whole lot of difference between a Lariat and a King Ranch. Other than trim pieces and the leather the seats are made out of. The audio might be upgraded too. Not much else. But that gives Ford the XL, XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch. Maybe different, and distinctive trim levels would help to A) make the Titan more desirable and B) would help solve the problem of making each vehicle different. Maybe have the lower trim levels all share the same dash like they do, but the "lariat" and "king ranch" trim levels really set the truck off.
The Flip side is true with the Z. There are so many different packages that it can get confusing on what is what and what the differences are and which one you really want. Especially when you consider how they all look the same at any distance. Make the trim levels more distinctive and more defined. That makes the cars easier to sell. Also makes them easier to compare to the competition. Both of which means moving more cars.

I actually think I've been pissing people off with my posts for longer than senor honda... this isn't my first screenname... I've been around TR since 2005.
I don't remember people bitching about senor honda until the last year or so.

The pathfinder is supposed to have a rugged look.. this is definitely a soccer mom vehicle, made for stocking up at walmart. I do not think I would even consider buying that if i was looking for a sport utility vehicle???? like the op said it is a crossover garbage design.

Empire,,, i did not read your entire post, it would not fit on my 17" screen.. lol
