URGENT: KA24DE idle at 4k RPM.
URGENT: KA24DE idle at 4k RPM.
I finally got around to taking out my IACV today to see wtf the problem was. There was a bunch of corrosion and carbon and shit in it, which I cleaned out pretty well. After putting it all back together and cranking up the motor, I found that I no longer had a low idle of 500, and I no longer had to press down on the gas for it to stay running, but the shit shot straight up to 4,000 RPM.
This is a call for help.
Yes, I searched. I found a lot of the same shit.
I tried adjusting the throttle cable next to the TPS. Nothing.
Unfortunately, the idle adjustment screw on the IACV has completely seized, so there's no way in hell I'm able to turn it. It probably has a lot to do with whatever the hell's going on, but I'm not entirely sure. I didn't do anything to the IACV except clean it, and I think I free'd the piston in it.
I messed around with the TPS plug and the MAF plug, leaving certain ones unplugged and trying to start up the engine again.
After plugging the MAF back in, my idle speeds dropped to about 1,500 RPM, but it wasn't constant like the 4k. It sounded as though someone were tapping on the gas. It shot up and fell down, and right when it began to get close to 1,000, it shot right back up again. This shit kept repeating.
And every now and then, the RPM would stick to 1,200 and sort of...rattle. Like a rattle snakes tale. The sound was definitely an unhealthy one.
TampaRacing, I need your ideas. I need this car to be running ASAP. It's my DD, and I need to go to work. Here you have as much information as I can pull off the top of my head. If you have questions, I will answer them as best I can.
Please and thank you.

well there is a gasket for that IACV sounds like a intake mani leak right where you were messing with it.
and pull of your air box and look at the throttle body should be close but after you messing with might have messed it up make sure it is closed until you press the gas

Make sure the throttle cable isn't caught on anything. Especially near the Throttle body. That same thing happened to me. I took apart the iacv to clean, and when I put it back on, somehow the throttle cable got stuck, and it was a 4500RPM idle.
Thanks, fellas. I'm pretty sure the IACV is actually working now.
Checked the throttle body, pinched the hose. Pinching the hose did nothing, so if there's a leak, it's definitely on the unit itself. The TB is all good. No cables caught anywhere, readjusted properly.
I think it's the gasket. I'm in the process of removing it so I can make another one and apply the sealant better.

So...nothing happened. At all.
Everything went back to normal. Shitty idle speeds, gas on crank, etc.
The IACV is definitely fucked beyond repair. Guess I have to get a new one. Yay.

Ouch. Well, either way you were going to replace it. This isn't too bad.
