Hey guys whats up? I'm new here, I made a post in the n00b section with a quick story of my problem maybe I can get some help here. The problem is the motor is making a noise it isnt really a knock it sounds like a light tapping noise coming from the head I think, When my GF got the car it didnt have a boost controller so I'm thniking maybe the car overboosted or something. Plus I'm new to turbos so I really dont know too much about the technical stuff. The car does run and still pulls hard so I think it isnt rod knock but I dont want to punch it and blow the motor. A buddy of mine has a turbo honda and his motor makes the same sounding tapping noise and he said it has to do with the valves and going from na to turbo that they make that tapping noise. IDk, I'm just looking for help so I figure if anyone with actual knowledge or has been through this problem before, even if someone want to meet up with me that lives in or close to brooksville and diagnose the problem I could shoot some cash your way. Probably just the upper timing chain guide. Just replace your timing chain and remove upper guide.

Detonation sounds like marbles in a can. It's a very different noise from timing chain rattle. I'm willing to bet this thing is the typical TR SAFC1, venom injector car. What turbo, what boost level?

 

I've got an SAFC2 on it probably not properly adjusted/tuned whatever and it doesnt have venom injectors it has oem 300zx TT injectors and a N/A 300zx maf. The turbo is a T3 with a ar.70 trim inlet, I dont remember the exh. side and the car has no boost controller so idk what it boosting, I need to get a boost controller though. ^ You do realize a boost controller cannot lower your boost right? Is the turbo externally gated or internally gated? If so the spring that is in the wastegate will give you an idea of the boost the car is running.
No wideband + shoddy tuning = recipie for fail. I'd invest in better injectors and a ROM TUNE.
