Default Question About Skyline Intakes

I've seen many a modded Skyline with a single turbo that still utilizes two intakes. It's often two filters jointed into a Y-shaped rubber hose that goes right to the compressor inlet. Is there a purpose to this as opposed to just a single, larger filter? Thanks.

It is because skylines have to MAFS. So in order to be able to use the stock ecu or a PFC, it needs both.

And generally they're using twin Z32 MAF's anyways, and not the stock units.
