Default SR Runs Rich?

ok heres the deal! my friends complain about driving behind me becasue they get a strong smell of gas comming from my exhaust. The car does not blow black smoke or anything so I dont know what it could be. The car does feel a little sluggish compaired to what it normally feels like at times? Should I be replacing my sparkplugs everytime I chance my oil? I also run 93 in the car at all times and I have a full exhaust. The car shoots little blue flames out of the exhaust from what im told at night when it is visible.

The car runs GREAT but I just want to address my friends complaints as I cant see anything wrong. Also how ofter do you change sparkplugs on a SR? I am running new plugs with about 4K on them so far.

thats not too abnormal.
id rather it be rich than lean.

all sr's with exhausts shoot fire sometimes.

Mines has been running rich as well.I believe this is more or less due to the fact that a bone stock SR is supposed to have the stock boost solenoids hooked up , so it can see that extra 3 psi of boost, vs the the minimal 7psi coming from the wastegate actuator alone. I know for a fact that my car runs rich, open downpipe = smelly exhaust, I can also hear the flames. I don't believe that running this rich can be normal, after about 3k miles , i popped a vaccum cap off and the car, after about 2 days (of not noticing the vaccum leak) ran so rich that it fouled the plugs out, and started misfiring. I was also wondering if a failing Coolant temp. sensor can cause a SR to run rich. Oh well, all the more reason to up the boost I guess?

is your sr int or ext wastegated? cuz when my wastegate opens it reeks of gas. maybe this is a good excuse to invest in some fuel management

Yes my temp guage doesn't rise up as quickly as it used to, I believe it maybe acting up. Although i'am only running stock boost, I've heard from others that a failing coolant temp. sensor can cause a SR to run rich.

Mine's is a stock T25, so internal. Don't think that has anything to do with fuel management though(wether it is internal/external), one shouldn't cause you to run richer then the other.

well it was the plugs. I was running too hot of a plus so I went with the NGK 7E's and it has been pretty good so far.

I'am using Denso iridium IK20's as of now(wich is what denso's website suggests for use with the s13 SR20DET), i'am thinking of going with the denso copper plugs though. Wich NGK's are you using ? Where did you get them from ? I went all over and couldn't find a store that stocked any NGK's for SR's.
