Steering Wheel Hub Bolt

I was trying to replace my crappy steering wheel with a aftermarket one. The problem is when I removed the nut that holds the steering wheel and it came off crooked ruing the threads on the bolt. I've already tried to use my tap and die set to rethread the bolt but none were large enough to use. I even spent $30 something dollars and odered a larger dia die (14mm) and found out that this is not large enough either. Is there someone out in the Nissan community that can fix this for me or loan me the proper tool to repair this bolt? Any assistance would be appreciated.Thanks.

umm...you could just replace the rack/column man...i think it unbolts about 5 inches after it leaves the firewall...just take it off there, and get one fromt he junk yard...I wouldn't try to rethread that.

I actually was able to rethread the bolt earlier today. Now I'm waiting on a replacement Steering hub nut I ordered today from Nissan. Seemed the M14 die I used did the job. I did attempt to bolt the stripped nut on and actually had the steering wheel tightened down but used too much torque and completely stripped the remaning threads on the original nut. Damn, I need to learn not to overtorque things.

torque wrenches help, or self-control  jk goodluck bro...if that doesn't work and you really don't want to take 5 minutes to replace the column, you can resize the threads to a 13mm or 12mm, and get a new metric nut from ACE or something.
