Default egr removal?

ok i have a opening on my intake box that free air flows through. well, when the egr releases air back into my intake piping, some also flows out of this opening in my airbox. not really a problem, its just that some traces of oil and sludge are going out along with it. so the right side shock tower of my engine bay is regularly tinted brown because of this. i was just wondering, can i remove my egr system to remedy this problem? or could i unplug the hose going into my airbox from the egr, and re-route it to point into a spot i dont mind getting dirty? or is it necessary that it conencts back into the intake stream? i know how these systems work, i just wonder if maybe my idle or something would be effected if the egr system were no longer feeding my intake stream. or if i would have any problems in general if i completely removed it. thanks in advance.

take everything out associated with it, plug hole in exhaust manifold with whatever fits. (i cut the pipe, flatened it out, and then filled in the rest with a welder. not the best way, but hey, it worked.)
cover hole in airbox, or switch to cone filter.

Couldnt you just put a air breather on it?
And be done..

Take th whole system off is the bast thing to do. If you dont , some people leave the vac line that runs to the egr still hooked and and it can make the car idle and act funny. It doesnt happen all the time, but it does happen Take it off completely and make a little plate to bolt on over the big openening, or buy the plate premade on ebay. MAke sure too, that when you do, you close up the hole that will now be open in your exhaust. They make big bolts for it.
