Stuck with un tuned car..what to do?

This past Friday I had taken my car to XAT to get a SAFC II tune for my new setup
GT2871R
555cc Injectors
SAFC II
4 puck clutch
light weight flywheel
MR manifold and O2 housing....

When Martin opened the hood he said that the car should not e SAFC tuned in his professional opinion, Due to the S14 motor....He then Explained to me about a timing issue with the ECU and said I would need a Power FC or wait for the WC code ECU rom tune for S14! Now I just need to know what is better for my application, I found no comparison in the search. I just want to drive my poor car.

Martin was good enough to mess with some of the settings while i was there and its a bit more drivable now...it was not a dyno tune, just took him like 2 minutes of tinkering with safc...i dont drive much....im going to drive my miata till i get the 240 figured out.

Power FC is hot. But that doesn't matter.. you should have gotten a tune for even a low boost setup.
If I drove 2 hours to get something tuned, and didn't.. I'd be furious. KA-T owners have the same timing issue.. but that doesn't stop people from running 10+ psi on nothing but an s-afc.
Does your car at least drive normally after the "tinkering"? Like decent idle and a/fs?

Edit: I guess before jumping to conclusions.. did you tell them you had an s14 sr20det and 550cc injectors/2871r and wanted an afc tune?

you should have told them what setup you had when making the appointment... now you have a tough choice, I would get the power fc for now until you can get rom tuned.

I was thinking of doing a similar setup cept stock tranny components for now. But I have a SAFCII and I wanted a tune the difference for me is I have HKS 256I and 264E Step2 cams and I was looking to upgrade to a 2871R now if I get a tune with the stock t28 with a SAFCII would the same thing apply to me if upgraded turbos? Would I have to get a ROM Tune? Can you have a ROM Tune and a SAFC tune at the same tuime or do you eliminate the SAFC?

I spoke with Nick at XAT and he knew the setup I was running and Martin even asked him why didnt you tell me it was a S14 SR... Martin, said it would be a waste of money to have it tuned at that point. I wanted to speak with martin the 3 times I called but he was out doing house stuff i guess. The tinkering he did made it run a bit smoother but idle is still low.

Jeff I love you, be my babys dadda.....!Dave and Becky say hi

give Jim Wolf Tech a call...they might be able to help you, then you could use the SAFC to supplement the normally safe-rich tuning on the JWT ecus.
