Thinking about buying an S13 coupe
I just wanted to see what you guys thought about a car I went and looked at today. It was a totally stock '92 SE coupe, 5-speed, HUD, new tires, loaded with sunroof etc. 180,000 miles. The interior was one of the cleanest I've seen and the exterior was above average. The ac blows ice cold. There were only a couple problems I could see. I found a little bit of over spray under the rear of the car so I think it has had some body work. But what 12 year old car hasn't. Also the clutch is badly worn, the driver's window doesn't roll down, and the remote trunck release doesn't work. They were asking $2995 I offerd $2000, but he wouldn't go for it. I know that S13 coupes are somewhat few and far between and that 240's have become enormousley popular in the past few years. But I just have a hard time paying $3000 dollars for a 12 year old car with 180,000 miles. Specially, when I sold my '93 coupe like 6 years ago for about $3500. Damnit damnit damnit.
Am I off my rocker or is $3000 just too much?

it seems to me that $3000 is a little high...I bought my 240 last year for $1500. It had 120,000 and the interior was in excellent condition besides a LITTLE wear on the drivers seat. The thing wrong with the outside is that the paint is faded mostly only on the front bumper. Maybe I am the one off my rocker but it seems that that price is a little too high.

I got my 93 SE coupe for $1300. Granted it didn't run, but it had a perfect body/paint, clean interior, and 107k. I traded a few things for an S14 KA and tranny, so I'm in for under $1600 plus a weekend.
$3000 is out of the question for a car with a bad clutch, body work, and other electrical/mechanical problems. It'll cost $400 minimum to have a new clutch put in. Even with the coupe price inflation, I'd only go 2100 or so. 180k is a little high. My brother's has close to 230k and it truely feels worn out, even with new springs/shocks/TC bushings. There are better cars and deals out there.

$3000 is way to high for being stock and the drivers side window doesnt roll down, $2000 would be about right, especially with those miles. Usually you pay $3000, for 100 - 150,000 miles, air mods, and suspension.

I've owned 4 240's in the past 10 years...so I don't consider this jumping on the bandwagon

I believe I looked at that car too. It has been there for at least 6 mo. The price at the time was closer to $4K, and I hoped it was like new out of grandma's garage. I didn't drive it after I saw it though because they wouldn't get real on the price. Apparently they do a lot of buy-here/pay here sales, and figure somebody who needs the credit to buy a car will eventually buy it at the inflated price. Too bad, it's a fairly clean car.
That's pretty much what I was thinking too. I'm sure someone will buy that car at their price, not anybody on this site though. I'm in no hurry. I'll just wait untill I find the right coupe at the right price.
