1977 Datsun 280z SBC Conversion
1977 Datsun 280z SBC Conversion
Alright, hello hello I'm interested in swapping in a Chevy small block 305 into my Datsun and was wondering if there was anyone else who has done this before who can help.... I don't wanna empty my bank to do it also, so yeah...
i'm sure someone in the area has.
do you already have the drivetrain?
you doing the work yourself?
doing the welding yourself?
to overly simplify it, it is just a mannor of tearing the old stuff out, welding up some custom mounts and brackets, getting the new engine and tranny in it, a custom drive shaft, custom bits to finish it up, custom wiring harness and button it up.
carburetor will be cheaper/easier than FI.

Yes. That engine will fit. The Lt/ls engines are actually pretty common swaps.
I believe the site is thezstore.com. they sell pieces for a lot of common swaps.
There is a ton of space to work with. You can pretty much do any swap/setup you want to.
Personally, I would think the toughest part of the swap would be the rear end. Not sure how strong the stock rear really is.
Beyond that, the wiring would be the tough part. Again, depends on set up and how "stock" you want it to look. But if you can source the gauges/cluster from the donor cat, that makes it a lot easier.
Doing the work yourself will save a ton on costs. Especially if you can fab up your own mounts/mount brackets.
What are the goals of the build?
Daily? Track car? Super clean, looks stock? Or function over form?
