Well the Wally install was easy as hell! But I did not think it was THAT loud. I heard people talk about it but DAMN!!!! Sounds like a knome is in my hatch with a vacume.

Well GLEN.... the pump did not fix my problem @ 4k RPM. It is still sputtering and the power dropps off. The exhaust note gets really deep @ 4k, and the power falls! SO can it be that I AM pulling timing due to bad lifter(s).

Here is what I think it is. It is a bad lifter on the exhaust side, causing the drop in power, pulling timing, and backfire, which feels like fuel cut. But you know more than I.

97-99's have the timing Nazi ecu, so it can be that you are pulling timing, but i was under the impression the 99's had the re-revised lifters?? ah well, check your fuel filter too, could be clogged

 

yea I thought the 99 had the new lifters as well. I know that when I got the car in 99 the lifters had to be replaced once. But who knows what those idiots put in.

Isn't the fuel filter attached to the Wally? If so it was new with the pump.
Does anyone have the link where I can get the new lifters cheap? I think it was Connecelli or somewhere.

fuel filter is in the engine bay on the firewall to the right of and under the battery

just some idea's not sure what you have checked yet.

timing? base timing and cam timing?

intake leaks?

all the cyl. firing? have you pulled the wires off latly? did they go back on in the right order?

Yes I put new plugs in a few weeks ago. Yes I have checked all the wires and they are o.k. and firing to my knowledge. I am in the process of making a boost leak tester, but I checked all my pipe connections this sunday when I put the pump in.

This problem has been around for a bit. It now has gotten worse, and my lifters are ticking non stop. Before the lifter tick would come and go.
When the RPMs get up to 4 k it sputters, the power drops off and I noticed that black smoke comes out the exhaust until I shift, sometimes backfiring.

well after calling Jerry he says i have a boost leak....... I checked all connections I dont think its a leak. So I removed all of the remaining HC's except the big middle one in the MAS. Well that helped a bunch! power does not drop off @ 4k rpms. Was the MAS just giving it too much fuel before?

This morning i go out to start up the car and it will not hold idle, it dropps off and almost wants to stall. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep the RPM's up. After a few seconds it evens out and idles fine.

I did notice my vacume being around 15 hg instead of 18. why is this?
