Default 93 Evo 1 engine problems! Please help!

Ok so I bought a 1993 Evo 1 back in May drove it for a fews months and everything was fine although a slight ticking sound started about 2 months after the purchase. Then around October then engine started Idling very rough, the gas consumption doubled, when accelerating there is no power and after a few seconds a warning lights comes on the dash it's a box with to pipes coming out of it on both ends and has wavy lines above it.

The ticking is at its loudest when the engine is cold and seems to almost go away completely when the engine is warm. Some friends suggested I change the hydraulic lifters so I changed over to the 3g talon lifters but the ticking got louder and there was no changed in the rough running of the engine.

I have embedded a video of the sound my engine is making hopefully you have some help ideas how to fix my issue.

YouTube - Ticking after changing over to 3g lifters

Its hard to tell on the video. It sounds like n exhaust leak on there. I had a problem with lifters not pressurizing before and it made that loud ticking noise. sounds like it could be your problem too. maybe a clog or oil pump is done.

yeah i would say it is an oil problem, only because if it mostly goes away when it gets warm, that means that the oil has thinned out and got thru a clog in your pick up tube.

let me guess the car is black? I wanted to buy that car but the seller wouldnt cooperate with driving it across the boarder. its oaky though as i already had a nice evo1. i ended up gettig a nice evo 4 instead. let me know if you ever need to sell it.

you cant tell what noise is from video. it sounds just like an exhaust leak. and it may very well be.

Yes I do have an exhaust leak but would this contribute to my fuel consumption and lack of power issues???? The exhaust leak is at the manifold gasket.

Also I recently did an oil change with Motul 5w30 do you think I should use a different oil?

im telling u u have an oil pressure problem. U prolly had noisey lifters before and then when u switched to 3g lifters it never primed and in turn sounds like gremlins with little hammers under the hood. Check for the clog he mentioneed above, check the little box under the vallve cover with a few bolts holding it closed, also your oil pump could be on its way out.

well I am going to do an oil change as other people have suggested and also fix my exhaust leak. If I still have the problem i will check into the oil pump and the box under the VC.
