Default Need a little help with a trade I may be doing.

Hey guys whats up. I may be working a deal on a trade with my Turbo Cordia. I was offered a 1990 Talon Turbo. There are a few issues with the car and thought maybe you guys could share your thoughts and what it might cost to fix if I should go through with the deal. Here are some problems I noticed with the car.

*When getting on it, the car would pull like hell to one side. its only running about 5 lbs of boost, I cant see torque steer being that bad with so little boost. He states that its a $20.00 bushing that is wore out on the control arm or something like that. Im worried it may be the steering rack. What do you think? Is 5psi stock boost level?

*It has a Greddy BOV, not plumbed back into the system and the top screw is missing, what affect would this cause?

*Hazzard lights work, but the turn signals do not.

*Transmission seems to grind when shiffting. Could it be the master and slave clutch cylinder?

*When tring to start the car, the starter would continue to turn after the key is removed (Only did it once when the guy came to my house to look at my car. He said it does that once in awhile.

I dont mind doing some work, but dont want to end up replacing everything on the car. My Cordia has had everything replaced and runs like a champ. What is a 1990 talon worth? Paint is not very good, interior is in ok shape, AC does not work, has VERY few mods. Is there anything I should know about these cars? Is there a better year to look at? Are parts still easy to get for this car? Any help you guys can provide would be great....
Thanks..

Here is the link to my ad with my mods done to my car:

If he were to fix some of the problems, Do you feel its a deal I should go through with?
Thanks again.....

5 psi is not stock boost try 10-11psi. Some say 7psi but I did not see 7 when my TSI was in stock form with the factory boost controller still used.

Venting the bov to the atmosphere is not good. It should be recirculated unless you have some sort of supporting mod like a HKS VPC or you could get away with it using other mods but its still not recommended.

Is the turn signal switch broken? Maybe it needs another switch inorder for the lights to work.

Tranmission grinding is not likely to be the slave or master cylinder. These transmission wear and usually are the synchro's that go bad so with that said it would need a rebuild.

Starter continue to turn after the key is removed? I don't get it. Starter engages the flywheel to crank up the car and start it. Thats all it does, it does not continue running when the car is whether on or off.

A 1990 Eagle Talon TSI in that condition is probably worth $800-$1,000. Some may say different but I don't care if its turbo with all the problems you listed and condition it seems to be in its not worth an even trade.

Should look at 1991 if your interested in buying a turbo 1g DSM. 1991-94 share among the same parts except 1991 still had the 6 bolt engine. 92 pre May had the 6 bolt engine as well. 90 came with the oil cooler while 91- used the water cool to the oil filter housing. 90 has different sensors, different ECU, etc. While 1991-94 are pretty much exchangable. Parts easy to get for a 90... here and there given those parts are still going around.

Your Cordia seems to be a lot more reliable then this 1990 Talon TSI you speak of.

DSM:reason, Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to see if I can work out a better deal with the guy. Im tring to get him to repair some of the problems the car has. Im guessing that the 90 model was sorta a bastard year??? Thanks again for your reply.....

Personally, I would stay away from it. Just from the discription of the car, it sounds like a pile! Your cordia is clean and you have put alot of time and money into it. I would keep looking but thats just my .02 worth.

I think you guys are right. The guy just got ahold of me and said all he would fix is the control arm bushing and he wants to do a even swap. I think I'll just drive the Cordia a little longer Thanks again for your replies....

stock boost will vary between 8-11 psi. every car is different, and you cant base it on what one car reads.

i would stay away from that car, youve put alot of work into that car to pick up a rundown 1g.
