Default 1994 Eclipse HELP ASAP!

Hey all. Got a 1994 Eclipse GS 1.8L SOHC 4G37 engine (hey, it was a trade for my '88 Cougar...lol). When you go to start the car, the starter and ignition TRY to turn over, but the car won't kick into that final stage to start. Timing belt, balancer belt, oil, radiator, water pump, starter, and fuses have all been checked. All belts are turning and no electrical problems. And yes, the electronic starter chip is in it!

Just put gas into the car, we thought that might be the problem if the gas gauge is broken. Put in about 2.5 gallons in, thought that should be enough to start it. No leaks anywhere (water, oil, or gas).

Car only has 131k on it, and I need it working asap (deliver pizzas). My 2G Mirage took a shit (auto tranny w/o reverse or neutral, and neutral is now 1st gear?!?

Any help on getting this working would be of massive thanks. Please let me know what to do!

Did you hook a datalogger up to it?

have you checked for spark?
Also wouldent hurt to check for fuel.

to check for fuel, go ahead and pull the rubber line off the end of the fuel rail and crank the motor over a couple times... if fuel starts spitting all over the back of the engine out of the fuel rail... then all is good there... Car should start even if the gas is bad... you can always work out running conditions and driveability after it works.

check to see if you have spark, and Then I would see if you can adjust the distributor a bit to see if you can advance the timing to get it to start. If that works then I would see about timing the car. I have learned recently that the crank sensors go out a bit on these 1.8L engines and they are part of the distributor assembly. Therefore... best way to do things is to check Engine codes... either with a datalogger or by flashing them out with an analog meter. If you pull a crank sensor code.... off to the junkyard with ya. 1991-1994 1.8L SOHC eclipse/talon/laser

Hope this gives you a good place to start with the car.

thanks all. spark plugs/wires all checked out, getting spark. Ignition is lighting up, so all good there. Only thing I still need to check is the fuel pump. If it isn't that, then I guess check the compression to make sure that is all good, and that the cam is all timing correctly. If I can't do anything with it, andyone interested in buying it? Clean carfax record and all!
