air filter on 1st gen

Default air filter on 1st gen

hey i hav a 1st gen turbo and it has all that big computer stuff in the air filter and shit and i think that is blocking alot of air from comeing in .
is there any way i can take all that honey loking stuff out ?
will it give me any performance?
will i be able 2 install a after market filter in its place after?
thanks
btw is there any other home mods that can increse my power?
i alredy hav full exost so anything but that ,

you can remove the smaller of the two honeycombs but dont tocuh the larger one. K&N makes a replacement filter for your car

If you want to remove the stock airbox and MAF, you would have to convert to a different metering system with the use of aftermarket electronic components. Its doable, but probably a ways down the road in your modification plan. Don't think of the car like an n/A car, there are plenty of things you can do to make better use of the air that you are already taking in, rather than supplying the turbo more fresh air. Read and learn about boost controllers, AFC's, injectors, bolt on turbo upgrades, intercoolers & piping.

boost controllers are cheap ,easy,and reliable power if you dont get out of control with them . joe p runs abouit $40. make sure you get a good boost gauge.
