actually if anything a rx4 13b would be a series 1 13b.

S1 13B is a series 1 13b which came with like a 140hp or something. the S2 13B which came in the 89-92'S Came with 160hp. They were different specs..
I was always told to refer to them since I was little. It could be wrong, but that's how I was taught since I've been working on those two engines. Yes I understand the 86-88 are S4 models and the 89-92 are S5 models, but for the Engines I was always told one was a S1 and the other was a S2 since they both came in a 2nd gen.

with that logic then the 86-88 rx7 would be a s1 rx7 since it was the first of that body style. the first 13b was in a rx4 not a 86-88 rx7. 86-88 13b wasnt even the first fuel injected 13b.

From 86 to 88 the N/A RX-7 had a 13B-VDEI producing around 140 or 146hp. in the 89-92 they updated the engine. It had a better Engine management system iirc and they also increased the HP to around 160hp. So there were two different types of NA engines that came in that vehicle.

We want to get "technical" with body codes because they're the CORRECT body codes as listed by Mazda. Not something you made up to understand the FC better.
It was more than a better ECU that bumped the S5 from 146 to 160 hp. A better flowing MAF, Lighterweight rotors/rotating assembly, higher compression rotors, the different dynamic chamber + VDI.

This is the only place I've ever seen or heard 13b's reffered to in this fashion, I've always heard the motor reffered to as in coming out of which vehicle.
ie; "yeah I put a S5 NA 13b motor in in my NA S4"
You guys are free to use whatever nomenclature you want (because this America godammit!) but don't be surprised when someone asks WTF you're talking about.
