so can i drop it in a protege, if so how hard could it be

only 91-94 BG proteges/Escorts/ 323 hatch are bolt in. Plus you need a complete Mx3 v6 subframe/transvers member/mounts/wiring/axels... pretty much a mx3 parts car.
So if you have a 95+ you might as well find either A. a new car for the swap or B. for the work it would involve boost or v8 considering you will have to custom fab everything.

^no if you wanna spend more on an mx-6 go for it. It's resale value is higher than a ford probe witch has the sanem driveline and perfomrs identical! If it were me I would go to a junk yard take the harness and slap it into a nicely done mx3. On spray or turbo it would easily make a mid to low 12 second pass. Their fairly cheap considering that you can buy a ford probe motor for cheaper and their easily to find. THe swap is almost a compelte drop in! DO IT!
