the car starts but quickly turns off. my dad had the fuel pump set in a way that once i turned the key in the ignition to ON it would start pumping fuel, then i would turn the key to start and start the car, now when i do it, the fuel pump makes a weird noise, the car turns on but then quickly turns off.

the car is a 1984 and has a 12a.

 

how long does the car run for before shutting off?

Check all your fuses as well.

 

what kind of noise? what is your fuel pressure? does it start quickly? long crank? bogg and die or just shut off?

 

Its carb`d so it should only have 7psi +/- 2-3psi.

Does it start back up and run fine ?

What kind of FPR do you have ?

 

it turns on, then, in less than a second it turns off.

thats why i also think its my ignition switch.

 

Is it loosing anything else ? Like power to the lights or radio.

It could be the fuel pump relay going bad, Its electrical for sure.

Not a fuse because then it wouldnt start at all.

Its hard to figure it out online, maybe we can look at it sunday.

If you were not getting power to the relay, then you would not have coil power either.

The more I look at the circuit, the more it could be the ignition switch
