TR Mazda Beachside BBQ - Saturday May 17th, 2008 @ Fort De Soto Park
Sorry we couldn't make it out guys. We were hoping to get further on our little body/paint project than we did. Every time we tuned around, there was another little dent that need taken care of. So we didn't even get her primered yet.
Anyway,
I'm liking the lake seminole idea. I personal don't like doing to placed like Fort Desoto because I'm anal about the sand. Even if you don't go to the beach, it is still everwhere, and it is a bitch to clean out. Maybe I'm just OCD like that.
I'm thinkin Fort Desoto is just played out. I personally like lake seminole. I don't know if it is close enough to the center of everyone, but I'd like to think it isn't as far as Fort desoto is, ya know.
I know it sounds funny, but high school is just about out, so everyone is doing their finals. I'd be willing to bet that a large number of people that showed up last time were still in high school. That means that by the end of the month, they are all free for summer. I have no doubt that was a factor for the poor turn out.
As for doing a meet in tampa, it would have to be a parking lot meet and that doesn't seem like the same thing that we are trying to talk about. I don't know anyone that would A) want to put the burden on their own shoulders to pay for the shelter, and B) would want to pay to hang out under a shelter after they just spent "X" on gas and food and what not, ya know. It might be something to consider after we get a bit of "family" established. ya know.
my 2 cents,
We need to start planning another bigger meet. We'll refer to that as the BBQ. I'm feeling the Lake Seminole location. Get it talked up and shoot to get about 50 people out like last time. From there, we need to have at least a monthly parking lot meet set up. That way, when we have those 50 people there, we can tell them about our parking lot meet and try to get them to come out to that. That way it isn't just the same 5 TR people every time. If we can do that, then the following BBQ won't be so hard because we will have a small group established already through the parking lot meets. That will lead to more people comin out to the big BBQs...
I would suggest getting this all together for the beginning of june.
I wouldn't waste the time with the "who's interested" threads. We already know there are at least 50 people who are interested. Lets get the ball rolling on where to take those 50 people.
Pick a location for the BBQ
Pick a date
Pick a location for the parking lot meet (and get it ok'ed with whoever owns the parking lot)
Pick a "when" for the parking lot meet (as in the first friday of the month at 7pm. or something like that)
Then work on ironing out the details. (maybe even make a "flyer" to copy and paste to other forums)
Then start spreading the word.

Imma ask my work if I could have some cars meet in the HUGE parking lot on the weekend. The only bad thing is that there isnt a BBQ Grill anywhere....

We can always find someone to haul out a propane grill to use out there or we could use a hundred of those little camping grills, they always work pretty well.
are there any covers/shelter thingies so people can hide from the ever-so-cancerous fireball in the sky?

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.
im in lakeland. but im used to driving.
park in tampa off himes north of the stadium is nice. i dont remember having to pay for shelter though. TR has had meets there for years (the big ones).
meets later in the day require less for shelter. im not a huge bbq fan at meets, too much of a pain to plan. never know how many people, gotta cook it to standards everyone can eat, gotta have someone to stand there and cook the whole time, make sure people are paying and not mooching (unless you feel generous and wanna just donate your time and money to feeding us all).
anywhere in tampa near the bridges is close. seminole park is nice. i have been there. a pretty straight shot from the interstate across park/gandy or ulmerton too.
definitely have a 'feeler' thread. gauge the amount of people interested in the meet. then propose at least 3 dates for it. fri or sat only usually. sundays are ok with me but most people keep sunday for certain things. maybe have like 2 different fridays and 2 different saturdays. cant please everyone though.
then do a location poll. for a monthly meet, its good to have one spot. usually somewhere in tampa or somewhere in pinellas close to the interstate or gandy or something. i dont think quaker steak does much car stuff anymore but im not sure. having it at a place like that negates cooking though and is much nicer of a time.
a bi monthly or 'few times a year' type meet can be rotated. one in pinellas, one in tampa, to accomodate the people. i'd love to have meets in other areas, but us minorities of the locale groups have to just drive no matter what. i dont mind it though

Looks like Dan and Norachelle put in some thinking time.......
I agree about not getting frazzled by the sun until it cools off later in the year.........and not paying to rent a shelter.....
Tossing my 2 cents into the pot.......and sounding like a
commercial......
-Bob
International Boba House is import-friendly. Last time I was there, there were no jerks doing burnouts. No cops either.......Friday nights around 9PM-till? Pizza place next door. A Boba is a slurpee-type drink...not bad on a warm summer night....several flavors...
East Of Sears From University Mall . Reachable from I275 and I75. 2764 University Square Dr., Tampa 33613 for the mapquest freaks.....

Now there's some logic!
