Default Another blown 7 back on the road

I finally brought some well needed life back into this poor Rx7. I bought it quite awhile back with a horribly scar'd engine and got all the time and parts to throw it back together. I picked up the car for around $800 after selling some ricer parts off it, I couldn't pass up a black on black 91'. The motor is basically stock 91' motor, has a mazda "REMAN" stamp on it for 9/2000 so the miles can't be too high (100/100 comp). Picked it up for a $100 off a cool DSM guy from San Antonio.

I've kept the emissions since it was in good shape and I've never ran the nest before so it stayed. I threw some MazdaTrix SS lines, Exedy clutch, HKS 150mm, Highflow cat, and also picked up an RB copy cat-back from a TR member for a cheap $100. Rims and tires costs $300, still has the open-diff though which will be changed down the road. Still need a battery, stole my Blazer one to test/time it. The A/C and P/S are going to be on it aswell just haven't hooked it up. I have about $1600 into it all together for a running, driving 91' with about 30 hours worth of work, a few of them cleaning it I have half the turbo parts already waiting for the rest of them, still need an ecu, pressure sensor and maf

I do have a hood, just not on.

The previous owners Apexi exhaust placement was horrible..

The intake thats on the motor is stock S5 6port. The intake in the last picture is a 4port turbo one thats has been filled and ported to match a 6port intake. It's to make a turbo conversion nearly bolt-on for a 6port.

As of now I will be driving it as it sits. It runs great just no turbo. This 9.7:1 6port will be getting a stock s5 turbo/mani along with stock TII intakes and a FMIC. Most likely s5 TII electronics to start with an safc. A few lines to plum for the oil/coolant return but nothing major. Keeping the N/A drivetrain, just need a miata LSD. Only really looking to break 200whp with a nearly stock turbo setup to start. Reliable, big HP numbers cost some good money along with speeding tickets

Tight work!
sounds like you've got this project coming along nicely. As long as you tune it properly, the high compression S5 rotors should make it pretty zippy off boost as well.

I'm assuming you got a copy of the RB turbo exhaust, since the N/A version would be quite a restriction once the turbo goes on. Speaking of restrictions, whats w/ the cat? moving to Cali or somethin? Or maybe its a way to get around porting the waste gate lol. Not only did the the PO's exhaust placement suck, looks like they might have been running a bit lean as well

What kind of front mount are you planning on going w/ ? the old Greddy/Trust kit is cool if you can find it, and you don't have to be a magician to keep the P/S with it.

Good luck on the project, keep us updated!

found this on the forum. maybe?....https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/mitsubishi-sale/401313-fs-evo-8-front-mount-intercooler.html

I will most likely run another Volvo I/C like on my old vert (18"x27"x1.5"). The RB copy catback is off of a TII, same with the high-flow. I wanted this car to be nice and quite, a/c, the works hence the cat. It will be removed Im almost certain when I throw the turbo stuff onto it.

Sounds good, if quiet is what you're going for, a cat will certainly get you there
