Why not keep it 4 link would be major surgery to change to inferior design.

Just my opinion.

First gens dont have leaf springs. They have the 4 link set up.

You can use the stock 4 link, and transfer brackets over to the 8.8,and if you are not narrowing the rear end,the tires will stick out of the fenders, which You should roll.My other comp is down right now,but I have specs that showed how wide of rim,and tire size will work with a 8.8 uncut on a stock wheel well, and what offset.

I will post specs if I can get the computer up and running soon.

They are still wider than a stock first gen 7 rear end, trust me I know this.

Also depending on what offset, and tire width will determin how far it will stick out past the fenders.

Let me know how the wide body fenders work out,I have found a kit that cheap.I think last time I lookied it was like 150-200. per flare.

Also why go with a 16 for drag?

you can get a nice meaty 26in tall tire under there with no problem,Why kill it by getting a bigger rim size

i think u were a tad high or something on ur last post bro, it did not make awhole lot of sence...but as for the mustang rear end im going with the right size spacing for a rim to tire ratio trust me, im goign with gregers or mags, some kind of domestic race rim, im going to measure up "EVERYTHING" trust me bro, im just looking for people who can give me a few pointers about this rx7 "beefynesssssness" that i can do and where to go to "start my quest" if u will. i love import bodies and i love domestic powerplants and drive trains, but i hate the fact that imports are so many sensors and expensive to make fast adn keep up, and i hate how domestic bodys are too heavy and not aerodynamic ....so i wanted to combine an rx7 with a 351 winser...walla!....so..can anyone tell me some sites to go to for a good start? 1st gen body

btw- i already fitted the 351 in the cross member of the 1979 rx7 and i fab-d up some nice new moter mounts, im lacking some new headers that go around the power steering gear box and the starter, i got it all hooked up via drive train wise, im just not able to get the exhaust to go under that freeking car, the confound it rear end sits with its nuts draaggen the ground..pfft...so i jsut dont know what to do other than make custom leaf spring shackels and mini 4 link the beast, cuz i already snapped 1 axle with stock 4 inch tires, straight off the headers...

You claim to be a Ford/Mustang guy.
If you were, you should know that the Versallies, rear end is much narrower than the Mustangs 8.8 and already come with disc brakes.

But im guessing you are tring to use what you have already, cause I personally would never put a Ford 8.8 in there,Id go with a Ford 9 all the way, even with a less tourqe making rotary engine.

You claim to be a certified welder.
You should have NO problem leaving the stock links on the car.
REMOVING them from the STOCK Mazda rear end.

Centering the Ford rear end under the car.
Tacking on the brackets for fitting then complete the weld.

What is a greger?

All you need is WeldRacing wheels with the highest backspacing (if im correct) to keep the tire under the car into, the wheel well.

MOST of the information that you are askin for im sure you can get from grannies.

Just to let you know a 79 RX7 has less sensors than any Ford or GM product that I know of from that time frame.12A engines can be fun to mess with.I usally only have one vacume line on them, and only sensors are for reading gauges.

I personally think thats alot fab work just to have a 13 sec.
If its a cool factor drop the drive train into a pinto and call it a day.
Nice sleeper

man, its the "fun" factor of building an rx7 with an american soul. i had the tranny t5 5-speed and the 8.8 in my garage, here is my issue on why i want to go into the other rear, 1, the rear is strong and 2, it IS an exact size fit sir, i jacked the rx7 up and measured it up with the mustang axle, its is perfect, sorry to burst ur bubble, im sure i just have a "wierd" size axle or something.... but i need the clearance for the bloody TRUE duel exhaust, and stop correcting my spelling man, only dicks do that...chill out and smoke a doob
