Default Miata backfire....

Hey guys the other day i was cleaing out my engine bay and was careful as always but i suppose water got somehere cause since then its got no pick up acceleration....backfires at low rpm and idles well below 500...i changed the plugs wires that did nothing... i blew out any wtar in cyl heads by cold cranking nothing right now im drying out the coil packs but its been well over 4 days by now if theres any water left where the eff is it....its an obd1 so no codes and it runs, just real shitty, any leads? thanx!

you could still try the engine codes with the obd 1's, like the whole on off key x4 and see how many times the light flashes and look that number up in a book. if you have a miata rapair manual, there should be more on that there.

so u turn the key back and forth...not car on though...4 times and count engine blinks?....cause while running it throws no code doesnt say check engine...

k well the key thing didnt do anything but i took off some spark plugs to make sure teh cyl. were all cleared out and all were fine expect the first(front) cyl plug...they are BRAND NEW in box and its already covered in heavy oil soot......anything?

Im not sure about your cars particular sutiation, but I know that one alot of domestic cars when checking for basic trouble codes, without a scan tool, there are certain actions you can do such as turning the key to the on position without actually turning on the engine that will give you a code whch you can check from a list online or on a basic repair booklet. I dont own a miata so im not sure what the troubleshooting methods it requires to attain the trouble codes. Isnt there a booklet at an auto store you can purchase that may help?

You should also try disconnecting your battery cable to reset your PCM, maybe you accidentally moved a sensor or somthing when cleaning around the bay and it messed something up. try that and see if that works.

thats a lot man so with all my yrs in a garage....and hours of research i concluded i didnt look hard enough. The firing code on the coil pack goes 4123...as i concluded....but i had the wires 3124...let this thread die a dignified death please
