Smile food at car shows/events/meets

Hey guys I am possibly going to be starting a new business soon. Just wanted some opinions. Please do not close this thread as it is not advertising but pertains to local events. I have noticed at alot of smaller events there are no food vendors. My cousin and I BBQ for alot of people we know. Not as a business but we hae lots of requests.

So I was wondering do you guys think that this would be something that would be a good idea? Making prices reasonable no more than $5.00 to $6.00 a plate. I specialize in Puerto Rican pork and BBQ ribs. I don't just looking for feedback. Thanks for the advise.

For larger events, maybe.
For small ones, no. If you get people to bring food, people depend on them and they'll feel that they detract from the meet if they don't come. And having someone cook from the meet and people from the meet setting it up is a great way to social and meet people. Not to mention it makes it more than just a car meet. Whereas car meets that don't need food, plainly don't need food. In other cases, you have the same core set of guys that go to meets that enjoy cooking and sitting down and talking shit.

Having meet participants bring food and cook it kakes a meet mote grassroots, something about community. Bringing vendors in to cook and stuff takes away from that and makes it just another meet or car show.

My $0.02.

I aggree with the above post, however, i am familar with cooking at functions. We mainly do it at softball tourneys my team plays in, lil festivals in parking lots and one sunday a month at church. We do 5 dollars a plate. ill butcher the names if i try and write em out in spanish, but we do empanadas, platinos, tostones, penin y aroz con dules, pollo, bisteca, pinchos, and a few other things here and there. Again, im sorry if i butchered anything, just spelling it how it sounds to me

I can cook it, and love eating it, but hell if i can spell it... i cant even spell properly in english

But back to the point i was trying to make. By having an outside guy show up and cook food for the meet, makes it seem more commercialized. If you have a huge group that gets together then its feasible to have someone cook while everyone is mingling, but our rotary meet only nets 10 - 20 rotaries and a few random other cars... We do burgers and such cuz its cheap and easy and thats about all we can get members to bring with em. now stuff like rotor fest, they had vendors and it was nice, but it was a diff atmosphere. Every group will be different, so i suggest dealing with every meet/group/club/team as a new venture, and as with all business never expect it to be like anything else youve done before.

BTW, hope it works out for you guys, theres definitely potential there!

Chupa,
I thought about cooking, myself, but I only cook at places where they have grills...............I have seen your top notch smoker setup and no one has a good mobile setup anything close to yours....
-----------------------------------------
As a market test, the CCC All Import meet is on Saturday/tomorrow/24 April, and there are NO cookout facilities there. There will be NO ONE to charge a "vendor fee" to someone who is cooking for his car club......
.....maybe arrive early and get the cooking smell floating through the air......Slurp!....(drool)

There will be...my estimate/30 cars at least (far more cars at the last one) and no where to eat/no place to get an ice water/cold soda....hot as heck.....so pour some water over the ice when you get there......I want mine cold!.......
------------------------------------------
...........an ideal gig for a business minded person who wants to "serve the local community" by providing a valuable service.........

and completely free of competition........except for the people who just read this post, and are thinking..."Senor Honda has another good idea...."

...and I'm not much of a ribs guy......put me down for a plate of pork and whatever goes with it......I'm hungry now!......I will have cash....-Bob
