Default Here we go....

So i am planning a turbo d16y8 build and i have been reading up on vitara pistons. My first question is if they are as good as the hype why are they so cheap? Next who has run their turbo set up on them and how did they hold? They are supposed to hold up to 450hp? I also read that with them on regular length rods they do not sit flush so they are at a lower compession? What is the lower compression and is this a problem? Will have more questions just trying to figure out the piston situation first. Thanks to all

Ok so i found these vitara piston/rod set for sale. It says they are a custon rod length to get rid of the piston not becoming flush with the deck?
FJ Distributors
What are your guys thoughts?
Also i found this complete set, that comes with everything to get the bottom end together, good idea?
FJ Distributors

What would be a better investment?

This is why i asked, i know forged pistons would odviously be better, but i was wandering how these cast ones would do, i do not plan on exceeding 250 hp,i am asking because i am on a budget. Not being cheap with the build just cant afford $700 pistons. Also how much do you charge for your engine builds, since this will be a turbo setup i want it done right the first time. I would want the shortblock put together, the block would need to be notched, all new gaskets throughout as well. lmk

Buy the Fj rods and piston combo. They've been proven time and time again to take the punishment. You can get them in stock 75mm or 75.5mm if you need to refurbish your current bore.

I've been running my Vitara/Eagle combo for over four years now and the only problem I had is with breaking transmission parts. My setup with the eagle rods is super low compression, like 7.4:1, the new FJ rods bring that back up.

Like I told your friend in his thread, check out D-series.org. Look under the Frequently Asked Questions thread in the forced induction section.

Yeah thats what i have been reading under, but i got one last guestion i was reading about how they are noisy until warmed up? Is this just because someone bought the 75mm and they did not have the walls cleaned up and it through of the p2w? I was plannin on havin the block bored out and using to 75.5mm with a .020 p2w does that sound correct?

I have heard that they're noisy too, but I honestly can't comment on the piston noise thing. I swapped from my stock y7 head to a z6 head with a zex cam and isky valvetrain the same time the rods and pistons went in. Between the rattling of my valvetrain, and the open downpipe I can't really narrow down all the noises going on in there, but there isn't any decrease when it's warm if that makes any difference to you. My engine had 70k miles on it when this work was done, so maybe some of the higher mileage cars that keep stock bore have a more noticeable racket due to poor clearances.

Most guys seem to have no problem with the 75.5mm setup. Good luck with your build.
