da help
hey tr im trying to find a good shock and spring combo that will give my da a nice ride height but at the same time good support. i was going to go coilovers but i dont want to bother with always having to fix the height can you help me with this problem
Coilovers aren't hard to adjust the height on. You can lift the car, adjust the height, and lower it back down in just a few hours. Took me two to adjust my CRX (GC Sleaves), and that included adjusting the height three times, measure to see if it's level, driving it around to let the suspension settle, check tire/fender clearances, and leveling the car.
Koni Yellows (shocks) + Ground Control (Coilovers) is a good strong combo. They get pretty low, you can pick spring rates, the dampers are adjustable, and it's one of the best products on the market.
PIC, Progress, and several other companies probably make a solid-body coilover for the DA's too.

Generic Ebay Coilovers are shit.
They bounce, blow shocks, and are general crap.
The GC Sleeves have a set screw that tightens the adjuster on the sleeve body, making it nearly impossible for it to move. Comes out easily when you need to adjust it too (didn't use any anti-seize on mine, come out easily after two years of not touching it).
But, keep in mind that a suspension will 'settle' after you drive it a bit, lowering the car. That's why after you lower a car, you need to drive it around a bit to get it to where it will sit. And if you have stuff in the car, it will also effect ride height. And a good alignment after it's all settled in.
I'm running KYB AGX Shocks with off the shelf Ground Control Coilovers. It works great. It's a tad bumpy on some roads (which I think is more the roads fault) and it's stiffer than stock, but it still rides nicely. I pieced it together for less than $600 with brand new parts off ebay. You can probably do it for cheaper. Tokico Illuminas are good shocks as an alternative to the KYB AGX's. If you go that route, get which ever is cheaper. eBay is your best bet for finding this combo, cheaply.
The Koni/GC combo is more expensive (most people end up at like $800 for the combo) but most people agree it is well worth it. Weak Suace sells the combo for a good price.
Progress makes a quality set of solid-body coilovers for less than $600 too. They have good reviews (Bisi uses a set on his Wagon) as well.
Progress Technology: Anti-roll bars, sport springs, coil-overs, camber kits and more since 1995!
F&F and Tein probably makes a application for the DA too, but I haven't heard of many people running them. Probably more expensive than the above options too.

what would be better in the long run shocks and springs or a full coilover kit cause thats what im looking for something that will give me a good ride for will last the longest. i know im asking for alot but just searching this topic im still left with a question mark. so many people have so many different opinions its hard to really pick something. i love my da but its often hard to find parts for it. but ill keep in mind what you said thanks bro
A full body coilover like the Progress ones are probably a shorter shock compared to stock length Koni/KYB/Tokico shocks (Koni's can be shortened and custom valved), allowing you to sit a bit lower and it keeps the shock in it's sweet spot. But unless your rediculously slammed (compromises suspensions and handling anyways), you won't need it. And if you do, Ground Control makes custom top-hats to increase shock travel.
Regardless of that, almost any shock will blow if you use springs that are too stiff or if the car is too low. Biggest thing is what your gonna use it for. If you wanna be slammed, your ride will be compromised regardless. But if it's gonna be a daily driver at a more reasonable ride height, I'd probably go with the Progress Coilovers. It's the same price as Illumina/GC or AGX/GC combo. If you plan on racing or autocross, stepping up to Koni's might be a good idea and it's not that much more.
Personally, if I could pick my shocks/springs again, I'd go with a Progress coilover. But instead of the normal 350f/250r rates (Off the shelf rates for GC Coils for CRX, Progress sells them too), I'd probably go with something stiffer. Maybe 350f/500r (stiffer rear spring will help the car rotate). Then I'd invest in a good adjustable rear sway bay and front fender braces. And if I had the tools/money/time, I'd re-place the bushings with OEM rubber.

It's about the CRX, but the CRX and DA suspensions aren't that different.
The first link is probably the best read. Lots of info about what your asking.
is anyone on this fourm rolling on the fucntion and fourm coilovers because i have been searching and they are getting great reviews and have a good price to add to it so i was thinking that might be a good choice.
