RSX rear SEATS INTO AN EG / DIY

ok i don't know if this will help anyone buy i feel like there is never enough info out there so i took pic's while changing out the rear seats in my eg. now when i bought the car it came with gsr leather seats, since then i have replace the fronts with rsx seats and now want to replace the rears with rsx-s seats.

the top fold down parts of the gsr's fit perfectly but the bottom had a little gap.

tools used:
#2 Phillips screw driver
wire cutters
dermal with metal cutting disk

this took me like an hour or so

first thing i did is remove the rear seats from my civic

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6526.jpg

then i had to take apart the 2 back parts of the gsr seats cause the rsx backs don't fit in the eg the way they are. I had to swap the seat pans.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6535.jpg
(the back of the driver side gsr rear seat) i had to cut all the medal clip things holding the leather to the seat pan.

then i had to remove this plastic piece.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6536.jpg

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6537.jpg

then i just pulled the leather off the back of the seat so that the pan was exposed.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6539.jpg

be sure to carefully pull the leather from around the release handle use to fold the seat down.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6540.jpg

the seat pan (thats what i'm calling it) peals right off the foam and is almost identical to the rsx seat pan
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6541.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6542.jpg

now do the same to the rsx seat. remove the leather from the seat
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6543.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6544.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6545.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6546.jpg

on the front part of the rsx seat there are 3 or 4 medal clips holding the leather to the foam, i cut them to make it easier you might be able to pull the leather off the back with out cutting them - you only need to access the back and top part of the seat.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6547.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6548.jpg

this is the rsx seat with the leather off it http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6550.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6551.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6552.jpg

again the pan peals right off and this is what they look like side by side
(the gsr is on the left and the rsx is on the right)

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6555.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6556.jpg

now put the gsr pan on the rsx cushion - they go together real nicely.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6558.jpg

here i am sliding the rsx leather back on the new seat i just made.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6562.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6563.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6564.jpg

now i had to put this plastic piece back on.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6565.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6566.jpg

here is this part of the seat done.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6567.jpg

now after i did that all over again to the other back part of the rear rsx seat, i started working on the butt part of the rear seat. here is a pic of the rsx bottom rear seat next to the bottom gsr rear seat (the darker one is the rsx seat)

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6568.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6569.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6570.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6571.jpg

1st i put the backs in, you don't have to, but thats the way i did it. they fit just like the gsr's did maybe a little wider but not much.
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...DSCF6572-1.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6573.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6574.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6575.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6576.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6577.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/t...c/DSCF6579.jpg

so after i got the backs in, i place the bottoms where they should be and marked the spots on the car where the hooks from the seat touch the body of the car, then i cut holes big enough for the seat hooks to fit thought the holes. their might be a better way but the seats seem to say there and not move so i am happy with it.

ok so now all i had to do was pull the seat belt thing though the seat and i was done. here are the final pics

is that an easy install also? looking to get something in my EK

sellingthecivic 05-16-2009 09:56 PM

no the rsx front seats are not an easy install the easiest way is to just weld them in. i have brackets that were made but its kinda getto, and i don't think its safe. i'm going to weld them next time i take it to yonkie racing, or who ever welds. also they sit kinda high. i would just go with S2k seats. i will looking to trade for some if i can ever find some one wanting to do so
