Whatsup.

The clutch in my b16a1 CRX just blew out (I think).

After I got my car towed home I saw quite a bit of thick clear light yellowish fluid leaking from under the car from the passenger side of the engine bay (where the tranny is located).
Im almost definitely sure that it is tranny fluid. Is this normal when you blow out your clutch? Or have I completely destroyed my tranny? Will I probably need a new tranny all together? Im pretty sure the clutch is blown because I can put the car into any gear without stepping on the clutch and when I try to drive it none of the gears engage.

Would this be a good time to just go ahead and upgrade to a ACT clutch? If so which ACT clutch should I get (this car is a daily driver car not a track car)?

Are ACT clutches a lot more expensive than a stock OEM clutch?

Any advice/input would be greatly apprietiated.

Thanks
Mike.

if you have fluid leakage.. its more than just a clutch.

i would remove the tranny for a prompt inspection or jack up the car and locate your leak. chances are if you can put the car in gear without the clutch while its running and it does nothingm its toast. good luck

Hey Jon (or anyone else who may know)

Do you know which clutch application I need to ask for if I were to buy a new clutch at Hondaland?

I called them and they said that the clutch disk the pressure plate and the thrower barring for a Del Sol DOHC vtec and a 2000 Civic Si DOHC vtec have different part numbers. Which application will work on my B16a1?

Same question for an ACT clutch...which application would be for my B16a1?

Thanks
Mike.

My clutch blew out while haulin ass.
I was near redline in 1st gear and shifted into 2nd pretty hard...I got into 2nd gear sucessfully but as I floored it the car started to shake violently...it felt like I was driving over a shit load of speed bumps. Thats when I pulled over.

It seems to have been a sudden power loss not gradual.
I had no idea that my clutch was getting old. My clutch has never slipped (or if it has I didnt realize it). The only time my gears grind is when I shift into 3rd (but I think thats just bad 3rd gear syncros). Im pretty sure its fluid from the tranny. I used OEM Honda motor oil for my tranny fluid and the fluid that leaked out looked like brand new oil...it was still golden and clean.

The only thing that disturbs me about this whole situation is the voilent shaking when the clutch blew out. It doesnt seem right that the car started shaking just because the clutch blew. Im thinking that maybe Jon is right about the axel popping out because I just had CV joint repair done on the car a week ago. Also the axel popping out would explain the violent shaking. Also what disturbs me is the leaking fluid. I must have really screwed my tranny up for the shit to be leaking out fluids. Im getting a personal friend thats a mechanic to take a quik look at it this weekend.

This shit is stressin me out...

Anyone wanna buy a perfectly good B16 CRX with a bad tranny?

Im also thinking axle now. Have a tranny specialist look at it if you can. Good luck man!

Ouch...
Like Taylor and John suggested just crawl under the car and take a peek itll tell you a lot.
When you pull out an axle youll leak alot of tranny fluid since it forms a seal.
I had the pleasure of riding in a CRX that decided to spit out its axle and it definately a shit your pants moment.
