header wrap?
debating on wrapping my 4-1 header on my sohc. question will this truely benifit and kind of performance. makes sure that it would due to it lowering engine bay heat. really looking for someone who has some experience w/ using it. thanks in advance
I also installed it on my four to one header... I notice a little more pep in the car but mostly engine bay temps were down alot to the point after beating the car for 30 minutes I could place my hands on my runners and keep them there if that helps in any way goodluck
You'll decrease the life of your headers by wrapping them, since it can trap moisture and cause premature oxidation. Its not a huge problem, but in the long run it can have an impact.
+1.. i herd lots of storys about header wraping going bad.. like holes/cracks in them etc...

We have seen a lot of issues with header wrap. We always tell our customers to ceramic coat and that has had zero issues. More money to do so but it will keep your header looking great and last longer.

It's good stuff just testy. If you have a good high-quality header, the wrap and header will work well in unison, if you let the car sit a long time, moisture can build up, but if you drive it every day, the heat will burn the moisture off and you shouldn't experience too many rust issues.
HOWEVER, if the header is of low quality (cheap metal and welds) the wrap can disfigure or crack it or cause it to overheat and risk warping other metal parts of the engine. Proper overlap is KEY. I read a review from a WTCC race where due to incorrect installation, the wrap was the only thing holding the header together at the end of the race.
But you should notice a slight bump in HP as the car normally heats up. Higher exhaust velocities and less heat sinking in the engine bay are always great.
