well if you want to learn to drive fast the first thing you need to do is forget drifting. Drifting is not a racing technique. it is just a sport all by itself (unless you plan on running on Dirt ovals).

Oversteer - When the rear wheels begin to slide outwards during a corner. This condition is also known as Loose. As a result the effective turning radius of the vehicle reduces. A loose condition can be induced by applying to much throttle in a corner(RWD ONLY) or by lifing throttle to abruptly on corner entry (all drive formats). A suspension system that is poorly adjusted or balanced can also cause this condition by transferring to much load to the rear tires and in particular the outside rear tire. the cure for this is to soften the rear suspension (roll spring or damping...depends on specifics) or to firm up the front. of course any amount of suspension tuning can not compensate for bad driver technique...be smooth!

Understeer - When the Front wheels begin to slide outward during a corner. If you have a front wheel drive vehicle this will be your worst enemy. this condition is also known as Tight or Push. A car that is pushing will exibit a turning radius that is greater than the intended line of the driver. This is usually caused by carrying to much speed into a corner. This condition can however be caused by a car that has a poor weight distrubution and inadiquate suspension tuning (i.e. FWD cars). Push will raise its ugly head whenever the front tires are overloaded and begin to slip before the rear tires. if your vehicle has significantly more weight up front (i.e. FWD) than this problem will only be magnified. The cure is increasing the rear roll stiffness of the vehicle to help load the outside rear tire and cause it to slide earlier. but keep in mind all the suspension tuning in the world is not going to help you if you are still carrying to much corner entry speed!!
