Default Latest project on my hatch (cold air duct).

This is my alternative to a cold air intake, too many of my friends have hydrolocked their motors from one so this was prolly the next best thing.

Before.

Here's the air duct, thanks JBS.

Taking the bumper off.

Mean muggin!

I think it goes there...

Start dremmeling away.

No I'm not emo... but the razor does clean the edges up.

Test fit.

Here's the back, I just put gobs of Plastic-Weld on, holds up nicely.

Ducting courtesy of Pepboys.

Routing it up to the intake....

...and right to the filter.

Like so.

and BAM, instant cold air ducting.

Can't really feel a difference but the intake noise is definitely a lot louder than before, I plan on hooking up my laptop to view the wideband readings soon...

Thanks to opiumdaze for the help!

Be very careful when gonig through puddles and when its raining! I did this mod to a buddy of mine hatch, like 7 years ago, lol, and suck some water that same weekend! Hydrolock a fairly low mileage GSR swapped!

I guess if it starts raining hard I'll just push the ducting back in the hole lol.

yup i would not do this i remeber a rebuild for a motor i had to do cause some kid on his crx thought this would bring cold air in and force it in like a lil turbo welll heheh he was right but so wrong..it was a light rain and the water just goes right up in there it locked the whole motor there was alot of water in there but the funnier thing was when i stripped the motor down i found 2 lizards, tons of lil rocks and a WALMART BAG!! hehehe it was great

Holy shit his motor was like a treasure chest of goodies huh?

Well I actually ran into some heavy rain while on the highway and after I got home I checked my filter and it was bone dry, but there was a small puddle in the lower part of the ducting, I guess it wasn't forcing the water all the way up.

It'd be hard for the water to go straight up and then make a 90* turn, thanks to gravity and all...

im not a rocket scientist and shit but i remmber reading somewhere that the dryer style cone will cause the air to bounce of the walll slowing down velocity. not that that matters to u really u have a it sitting right by the top of the cone filter. Correct me if im wrong but isnt there a metal piece, there which will reduce the surface area for the air to suck thru.

if i where u i would get a smoother pipe which would increase the velocity of the air coming, run a small guaze filter inbetween the connection at the top (where ur filter is) and run it straight to the throttle body.

I would only run this only at the track

if it was working like how it should water would be in your motor. just redirecting air to words ur filter aint gonna cut it. the motor is still gonna stuck what it needs. if u cram air in there thats a differerent story. velocity stack that beast

Air is obviously easier to "flow" than water, therefore water has a harder time making its way up; air does not.

And I agree that the engine will only suck in what it needs, I'm just helping it out by supplying some cooler air from the outside.

And I do have a velocity stack that I plan on running at the track.
