Default swapped auto engine to manual car, new ecu?

ok so a friend of mine swapped out his engine for another of the same, which was a d16z6. his car has a manual transmission. the car which he got the new motor from had an automatic transmission. the ecu he has in his car was from yet another car, which was automatic.

is there a difference between ecus for automatic cars and manual cars and if so does it affect the car whatsoever? does he need a p28 from a manual car for his manual car to run correctly?

help please. thanx

That is correct. If not, you will throw a code 19 & have a weird idle.

Your current p28 can be chipped/converted to 5 speed.
