i have a question
I have a 99 ls in a 94 civ coupe. I plan on gettin a gsr head so it will be vtec. What all do i need for it to be efficent, i want a good strong running motor. Also how well will boost do to be safe with stock internals? thanks
take ur time and do it right...ive seen and built many lsv's.....buy the golden eagle kit and do it right.........stock internals on a frankenstein with boost i dont like....specially if its ur DD.....some b16 or itr psitons make for nice compression #s...also what trans u runnin?
ull want to install arp rod bolts at minimum to turn 8000rpms..if not say good buy to ur motor OR stay at 6800-7000rpms..as far as boost..i say save up buy pistons/rods get ur head rebuild ur bottom end and get the vtec head installed all at once...
Look for a B16A head, they flow much better. And get the LS/Vtec Eagle kit, it will make your life much easyer.
Also yes on the ARP rod bolts and head bolts. Need to hold that shit together.

my tranny is an ls... im gettin the gsr head for 600 and its port and polished b/c my buddy is gettin a b16 head. but every one tells me that i could run 8 lbs safe on stock internals... is that true? i do not plan to go ANY higher than eight until i rods and pistons and all of that good shit.
Honestly they are about the same in terms of flow. I would say get whatever is cheapest. And get a Golden Eagle Mfg. conversion kit

really, I was alway told they flow like a Type-R head?
And yes 8 lbs is fine as long as you have a good tune.
On the head, it really don't matter if it has a port and polish if it was never flow tested.
