Default Honda Questions! Idle, Temp, Lighting.

i've been a nissan guy for 3 years now but just recently traded my S13 SR20 for a civic with a b16a2 and some goodies.. I have a couple of questions because it's got some little annoying things wrong with it.
1. First and foremost annoying. the temp gauge, tach, and the left half of the speedometer light up beautifuly, but the right side of the speedometer and the gas gauge don't light up at all. nor does the ac ****. Help please
2. The temp gauge is always reading cold and spiradicly jumps to the middle. i know it's not over heating nor runnign cold. my guess was the thermostat is stuck open??
3. Idling. I'll be driving and throw it into nuetral going x mpg (don't matter) and it'll chill at 1500, then when i come to a complete stop it'll go to about 750.

Sorry for being such a newb about this but none of my friends are into hondas and i figured you guys could help me out. thanks in advance fellas.

1:since half your gauge lights up its not going to be a fuse.check the individual light bulbs in the back of the cluster and behind the climate control.
2:I've always thought a stuck thermostat would make it run cold or not.not chirp like it does.I'm not too familiar with thermostats though.
3:mine does the same thing I throw it in neutral it chills at 1500 and when I stop fully it sits at about 1k-750.750 is norm for a dohc vtec.

skunk2racing97 will probably be in this thread shortly.he knows a hell of a lot more than I do about this stuff.

welcome to the honda community.

Check your idle air. I just had the same problem today and my check engine light came on and popped up with a P0505 code. Looked it up and it said it was my idle air....

there are a lot of honda guys that are great and will help you out the best they can given the information you provide. they'll all tell you to get a helms manual, or download it like i did. search old posts, check honda-tech all that stuff.

1. youll have to pull the gauge cluster and probably replace a couple bulbs...pretty easy and shouldnt take more than 30min.

2. The sensor that controls the temp gauge is located in the passenger side of the head under the distibutor. it has a 1 wire small plug that plugs into it. remove and replace this sensor with a deep....i want to say 12mm but im not sure on the size. coolant will leak out so be quick and dont forget to top it off when your done. if that doesnt fix it youve got a bummed cluster

3. completely normal....not just for hondas either

I concur with the bulb replacement.

To see if it's the t-stat or a sender unit,
temporarily block off the radiator with cardboard.

If the radiator gets hot and the gauge doesn't move,
I would replace the temp sender.-Bob
