HID Question
This is probably a stupid question but can you use stock headlights with an HID kit or is it better to use them with aftermarket projector headlights?

IMHO, Your better off using stock headlight housings with the proper bulb shield then using a set of cheap Projector Headlights.
The Projectors that are in those housings scatter the light in all directions and don't give you that cutoff line of light, you'll end up blinding oncoming traffic but at the same time not see where your going.
I had aftermarket Projector housings on my Civic Si back in the (Ricer) Days, I had to buy foglights just so I could see at night.
2 months later....The Stock Housings went back on
If you want the best outcome for your money, Do a HID Projector RetroFit.
Get some TSX, S2K, BMW/Mercedes/Nissan type Projectors and Go Retrofitting Crazy.
Im sorry let me clear this up. Im not talking about the actual lights themselves, I do know HID kits use different bulbs, but I wanted to know if I can use my stock headlight housings? Jeff you said it would be best using a different bulb shield but do you have to?

Some HID Kits include their version of a additional shied (mostly H4 setups), It looks like a piece of a cut up soda can...but it works (I guess), However...Don't you have a Non-Stock set of housings on your car or am I mistaken?
they got damaged when I got into the accident, so the collision place gave me stock headlights. I just dont feel like getting aftermarket headlights so I figured I would get an HID kit instead

yup outkasted is right... you can buy a d2s or d2r based HID bulb and ballast (stock for HID equipped cars) and if you have an H4 base you can buy something called casper shields that accepts the d2s/d2r bulb to fit perfectly on your headlight and it wouldnt blind people as much. but buying a kit from a sponsor online is just rebased bulbs that will fit any socket which will have crazy glare..

The Casper Shields are machined pieces of Aluminum, I had a set on my '00 Si with the Infinity I35 shrouds JB Welded to the shields.
I actually had a great cutoff line for being in a non-projector based housing and had no glare issues whats so ever.
It only cost me roughly $70 and a few hours of my time.
