Default Honda dummy here....

Ok so I am looking to do a Honda motor in my Mini. I know they have kits for the B series motors, but I know there is one almost in production for a K series. What is the difference in price and power? Will a low ebd K beat a mid-range B?

I am a Honda dummy as the thread topic states, so any information would be appreciated.

wow id like to see that done..k has a lot more potential but u can normally find Bs cheaper and parts cheaper as well...either way id be happy..just depends on money..if u can afford a k..get it...not sure how the base motor k20 is but the rsx type s or civic si motor is very good..some people on here are selling for around 2600-3200obo for a full swap which is a real good deal..

Here's what I had to say about this in another thread:

SportCompactCar ran an article on this a month or so back. 1 EG, one CX; one powered by a K20 the other a GS-R head on an LS block. The b18 had low-level bolt-on mods(no internals), like intake and exhaust while the K20 was bone stock. The b18 actually put up better numbers, but the difference between the two was negligible. In other words, an LS/Vtec b18 will give you the same power for far less money, but if you're made of the stuff you can potentially squeeze more power out of a K20. Here's a link to the article, but it only shows you a few paragraghs becuase it's a little outdated. You can always order it if you want to read more.

K20 Powered Honda Civic EG vs. B18 Powered Honda Civic EG - Sport Compact Car Magazine

edit: also, if any1 read that super street magazine w/ the 10sec daily driven civic from Full Race, there's a top 10 list in that article on why ls/vtec is better than a k20.

edit #2: no word on how a b20/vtec compares

+1 good info!

however, the only thing i would refute this with is ease and availability of mods... i dont think you would disagree that some bolt ons and a chip would def be faster than a B18, AND you have that 2.4L bottom end if need be.

also, if you've ever driven a TSX or RSX-S, you would prob agree that the smoothness and seamless power delivery ( and driveability) beats the stock GSR/Type R.

i say go K20 all day long, if you can.

as for kits, i have no idea. sorry

I had a 02 Si, K-series, the trannys on those things suck horrible ass. Every person I know of that had an Si or RSX/-s, had tranny problems. Thats why I would stay away from K-series. They are fast but not worth it in my opinion. Maybe it was the fact that may car was a porker and not light like a mini.

There is a company outside of Atlanta doing the conversions. The Mini get a whole sub-frame swap. Basically unbolt the OEM Mini front and bolt in the new K-Series sub-frame with suspension, motor, trans and radiator---the works. The mini then needs to have a tilt front end which opens from the windshield forward.
