LS/Vtec SWAP NEED Help ASAP!!!!!!
i think i fucked up my gsr block so im going to take it apart tomoro so iwant to go ls/vtec and i had a couple questions if anyone could help me answer them would be great
1. i heard they last if you do the swap correct without cutting corners is that true?
2. i was thinking about buying the ls/vtec conversion kit along with the arp head studs from skippy would this be all i need to put my jdm b16a head with all gsr internals on it?
3. can i put all my gsr internals in a bare ls block?
4. what kind of compression should i be looking at i know my gsr/b16 made like 9.3 or something but i heard ls vtec is high compression?
5. would this be a stout set up?
ls block
all gsr internals
b16a head
all gsr internals
ls tranny
lmk any info you guys have for me would it be worth the work and would it be a fast motor in my ef hatch?? i can get a perfect ls block for like 30 bucks from a friend with 2 heads and extra internals lmk asap guys
thanks in advance, john

1. i heard they last if you do the swap correct without cutting corners is that true?
Yes (If the motor is built properly)
2. i was thinking about buying the ls/vtec conversion kit along with the arp head studs from skippy would this be all i need to put my jdm b16a head with all gsr internals on it?
Probably...
3. can i put all my gsr internals in a bare ls block?
Yes, but you need to have the cylinders inspected so you know they are in spec etc.
4. what kind of compression should i be looking at i know my gsr/b16 made like 9.3 or something but i heard ls vtec is high compression?
9.9:1 or so
5. would this be a stout set up?

ls tranny
It would work...
Yes (If the motor is built properly)

my boy said he heard screeching comeing from the block when he turned the motor over and he thinks its locking up cause i put that copper exhaust sealer sshit on the head and block to seal it and he thinks when i torqued down the head it smashed that copper shit into the way of one of my oil squirters or something scratching my cylinder wall??? does that sound right??? the motor makes a thud noise when i turn the key over and when i turn the crank by hand at one point during the rotation it gets hard as FUCK to turn the motor over , maybe bending valves??? i have a set of gsr valves ,springs and retainers waiting to be put on just in case i bent some valves but i dont know what to do im going by what my boy said how hard would it be to change valves??? i need help on what i should do thansk guys, john

It gets hard because it is hitting the compression stroke, that is normal.
But the screeching is not.
Sounds like you ran it out of oil.
Dont try to blame that on me, haha.
I didnt touch the block.
If you had it running with it screeching, and the screeching was caused by a lack of oil, you might have a spun bearing or scored cylinder walls.
If you used the copper sealer in between the head and block, we need to have a talk...

no i didnt hear it screeching he said he can hear it when we turn the motor over by hand but i have oil inthe oil pan and yes i know it gets harder on the compression stroke but THIS is not how hard it should be bro i can barley push it using all my weight and strength and im a fat fuck too lol this bitch is HARD and i know i shouldnt have put it between the head and block know but thank god the car hasnt even started up yet lol some old guy at napa told me to do it why did i listen you ask my answer is i have no fuckin clue i shoulda known he didnt know wtf he was talking about when he called it a honder FUCK o well im going to strip it down and clean it off maybe p&p if i get the money and then we'll try again if the cylinder walls arent scored :,(

There is nothing wrong with using copper spray on your headgasket/motor, alot of people swear by this(helps seal the HG) I have been threw this already, but to be sure check you cam and crank timing like I said, this will tell you alot as to what is going on. if you did bend valves the screeching could very well be the valves having trouble opening and closing if they are bent. I highly doubt that copper spray did ANY damage to the motor, it sound like it was timing wrong(happens ALOT, with newer motor builders
) and someone didnt double check their work. after timing the motor, the 1st thing you should do is rotate the crank a few times 360deg's and make sure that it spins trouble free. If it becomes very hard STOP!! there is a really good chance you are hitting valves, and then you have to retime the motor. Not turn it over with the key... which like stated above would bend you valves in a heart beat
LMK if I can help....
