94 accord, only RANDOMLY turns on. meaning sometimes it'll turn on and work absolutely perfectly and sometimes it just will sit there trying to turn the engine over, sometimes only minutes/hours after she just turned it off!

took it to the mechanic, they cant figure it out. we're at a complete loss. any ideas would be awesome? thanks

 

Try the fuel pump relay. I had the same problem and that solved it.

 

could be the ecu taking a poop too

 

If it turns the starter but doesn't fire, check the spark at the plugs.
Unplug the fuel line as it heads to the injectors, to check to see if it
spits gas in a healthy manner. Might be filters, some cars have more than one.
Might be fuel pump. Try cheaper solutions first.-Bob

 

i tried everything you three mentioned but swapping out the ECU.

i restate again, the car starts up RANDOMLY, i mean completely randomly, it has no pattern nor discernable cause to why it doesnt start up sometimes. It is unbelievably frustrating because when we take it to the mechanic, they can never find whats wrong. And they are GOOD mechanics, i trust them with my car and they've made it work like a champ. but this has completely stumped them.

There has to be some thing that could be causing it but the fact that it is so random is making it impossible to determine.

 

the next time it wont start, you need to determine whats not functioning. does it have spark? fuel? injector pulse? when you turn the key to the on position before cranking, does the check engine light come on? if you run out of patience, i would be happy to check it out. no fix, no charge. good luck.

 

try your main relay they usaully go out

 

when it doesnt start listen to see if you hear the click when the check eng. light goes out

 

lol you guys arent listening, i already checked all that stuff, almost the first thing we did. it still randomly starts.

when it doesnt start up nothing really happens but the starter trying to turn over the engine. then you try an hour or something later (sometimes not even then) and it works like nothing was wrong with it
