Default vtec problems

car runs good except for one thing. NO VTEC, I have no codes. It drives through all the gears fine but when I go to ENGAGE the vtec, it starts sputtering and loses power and MLI comes on but goes off after the rpm drop below 4500 then the cars runs normal again. No codes stored in ecu........... with the solenoid or pressure switch disconneted, it runs great like a NONVTEC motor but I've got a b16a w/ a pr3 ecu.............anyone ? ? ? ?

Do you have good oil pressure?

Also, is that pr3 chipped? If so, the map on the chip might be garbage.

i have personal never heard of or seen one go bad even from a 1st gen you might want to have someone check your wireing or find someone with another pr3 ecu,is it wired up.remeber just putting a ecu in a crx does not give it vtec it has to be wired up

Definately check the screen, also, when was the last time you changed your oil and what weight are you using? I have had many of my friends have this problem and after they changed their oil, vtec worked like a champ.
